Perhaps I was just unlucky as many other people seem to really like this restaurant. My wife had the three cheese pasta which she left half of because it was bland and unappetising and I had the salmon pasta that seemed tatsteless - if you had cooked it yourself you would still have been disappointed. We did not stay for dessert. Some positives - they were very friendly with my children - the restaurant dog was a pleasing distraction and that's about it.

I took some clients to The French House on Sunday. It was moderately busy and seemed to have plenty of staff on duty. But the service was very slow, there were problems with the orders, and there were issues with the food. The green salad was off, meat was in one case very overcooked and in another undercooked. And the staff were inattentive. I won't be going back.Sorry for all.

Bar upstairs and restaurant downstairs - very different ambience for each. I preferred the romantic and cosy feel of the downstairs 'cave gourmand'. Attentive and friendly staff - didn't speak much English (but we shouldn't expect them too!) but we managed. Enjoyed the three course menu at â¬33 - nice to experience sardines, fresh tuna and regional cheese. Washed down with a lovely bottle of rose wine at â¬25 - we enjoyed the experience. Upstairs is a lighter and more funky piano bar where you could enjoy the same menu, but the underground 'cave' with interesting curved brickwork and etched words suited is better. A good option in Arras.

Excellent and innovative French kitchen. We paid only 72 ⬠for 2...Social place, not posh, you feel at ease eating there. In short, perfect, except they had since a week an invasion of tiny fruit flies...they were working on this problem. I am sure it will be resolved by the time you get over there to eat!

Sunday of the World Cup final in Arras was a challenge to find a restaurant open. We came across the Leon and saw it was open. Large car park at the side. What a find, lovely manager and staff. Excellent menu, with plenty of variety for all tastes. The Leon is primarily a mussels restaurant, with plenty of mussel meal variations. We opted for steak, which was cooked and presented very nicely. Lovely young lady who served us, very helpful. We dined on a shaded terrace at the front of the restaurant, which was great as it was a very hot evening. We will definitely dine here again, the next time we are in Arras.

In April of this year we visited our French friends who live in Arras, France. The took us to their favorite restaurant for lunch. The family run restaurant was outstanding in every way.

On the outside a truly unobtrusive business... But the moment we got inside to make a reservation we felt: 'this is a good place to come!'The menu is composed of first courses with eggs as the main ingrediënt, the maincourse are all poultry. (There is also one vegetarian main course, and a daily changing fish and (red) meat main course). We still were a bit suspicious... Would it be really possible, to create something creative with chicken and eggs? Well, at L'oeuf ou la poule', they do!The 'Oeuf parfait 'Espuma' de Maroilles' was a dream...Every ingrediënt of my 'Filet de Canard au poivre de Sichuan' was cooked to perfection. And then there was the dessert... I choose the 'Oeuf chocolat surprenant'... I never, never ever had a dessert like this. It was heaven. To our meal, we drank a glass of very good organic red wine.
