There are several good places to eat in Mons, but not so many that offer good food at very reasonable prices. This small and unimpressive looking restaurant is located just off the Grande Place. It is usually busy in the evenings and for good reason - the food is excellent and all freshly cooked, the service is friendly, portions are generous and the value for money is outstanding.Don't be put off by appearances - the décor is typical Oriental kitsch - pay this place a visit and have a cheap treat! They also do food to take away.

It's a hole in the wall type of place with just a few tables. No English menu, but they did have a photo album they brought out for us with pictures of some dishes. My wife and I each ordered Pho, one with beef and one with chicken. The soup in both really tasted good. The beef dish however was blessed with a good amount of what seemed like freshly cooked roast beef pieces and it was yummy. The chicken however wasn't so good. There wasn't much meat there and what was there were small pieces (think scrap) of dry chicken breast that were crumbled in the soup. Not good. We also ordered a plate of duck and rice. Don't know the name of the dish. Flavor was good, but it was victim of the microwave and had a hint of that rubbery microwave taste to it. By the way, as we were waiting for our food, you can hear the kitchen noises as food is being prepared. The sound of things going in the microwave and the "ding" of the timer was non-stop.So, if you need a quick fix of Vietnamese fast food, this isn't a bad option.

The food from the Jade de Chine is excellent. Not exactly cheap (though nothing in Mons is), but very good quality, very flavoured and a great choice, including vegetarian options. Some of the nicest Chinese food I've ever had, whether in the UK or in Belgium.
