Great Value but Far from Winter Snorkeling Spots

My son, his friend and I stayed in the Haleakala suite in December 2021. Two bedrooms, full kithcen and living area. Very quiet and clean. Had a nice tray of breakfast foods and snacks when we arrived, clean linens, towerls, beach chairs, beach towels. They also have laundry facilities which was awesome. Went to Haiku Market to stock up on food and cooked, ate in and were able to use cooler provided to pack lunches. Enjoyed using BBQ to cook and eat outside at night. Since it was December, any good snorkeling was on the South or West side of Maui and that was a minimum 1 hour drive to get to. This is not the fault of the hosts; I should have really thought about whether it made sense for me to do that much driving versus staying on the West side where I could walk to snorkeling in December. Since I have chronic pain issues, the driving to get anywhere was too much for me. My son and his friend are also gamers and our internet did not work when it rained and I heard a lot of complaints about this. Folks who are not addicted to being on computers (or who do not need access to email 24 hours per day like I do for my job) will not care about this at all but I am sharing our experience. We did enjoy see turtles basking on local beaches and went on a lovely visit to Haleakala where it had snowed. If you want to see places along the Road to Hana, then this is an ideal place to stay. Since it is so quiet, I would suggest that perhaps hosts leave some board games in the suite for folks to use.

Huelo Point Lookout

Huelo Point Lookout offers a four unique choices - one 2 bedroom/2 bathroom home (it's possible to rent just the top floor, Ocean Lookout, if you don't need all that space to rattle around in) and you also have your choice of 3 unique cottage style accommodations. We're very much for the alternative, independent type of traveler who loves the freedom of being able to prep his/her own meals and just relax into the island vibe (and saving a little money along the way). We've been offering our 'aloha' since 1994, and are a legally permitted business (permit # BBPH 0015/2009) (TA-1-5-110-5280-01) so your reservation is always guaranteed to be secure. This is Maui's north shore - the 'real' Maui, not just the 'hotel' version ... A perfect place to experience 'living' here, rather than just making a flying visit. Maui is gorgeous! Take the time to enjoy it!

Absolutely wonderful

After spending a few days on the south shore snorkeling for the "beach half" of our vacation, my wife and I stayed here for four nights for the "jungle half." It was incredible! It can be easy to feel like a clueless tourist on Maui (because, face it, you probably are!) but this quiet, peaceful corner allows you to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the prime tourist destinations - while still being minutes away from them! The place is a couple miles into the Road to Hana, so we felt especially smug about getting a head start on our Hana day trip to beat the heaviest of tourist traffic, and the drive back from Hana was much shorter than it would've been had we stayed elsewhere on the island, so that was a major perk! We also loved just relaxing in the private hot tub under the night sky (great stargazing), laying by the pool, and checking in on the chickens. Everything felt very private. Sharyn was extremely welcoming. This B&B is clearly very loved.

My wife and I had our honeymoon on Maui. We stayed 2 nights at Hale Akua before heading elsewhere on the island, but on our last day, we cancelled our plans so we could return to Hale Akua! The staff was friendly, all amenities were available, and the room was spotless, but none of that compares to how incredibly tranquil the grounds are. We would gaze at the ocean from the jacuzzi, drink tea and watch the rain drop into the koi pond, walk amongst the many lush gardens, with their many graceful statues from Southeast Asia, or watch the gigantic cascading waterfall as the sun set. It is our favourite place on Earth. We wish we could live there permanently.

Over-the-top hospitality and accommodations

Located on a hillside with a beautiful view of the valley as well as the Haleakala volcano, Bev and David provide a spacious and very private lodging that includes an outdoor patio, laundry, and an amazing hot tub. Daily we enjoyed mimosas on the outdoor patio, while looking at the surrounding beauty. and experiencing the gentle tradewinds coming off the Maui coastline. Snorkel gear, boogie boards, and beach chairs were available for our daily outings to fabulous beaches only a short drive away. We would enthusiastically recommend Maui Tradewinds to our family and friends.
