We went to this restaurant prior to a concert at the West Side Theater. The meal was terrific. Everyone enjoyed their selections. The food was authentic and prepared with fresh ingredients. I enjoyed my torta. Everyone else had combination plates and enjoyed a variety of meats and sauces on their tacos, tamales, enchiladas and burritos. The bar is marvelous. Art deco design with a brass foot rail and wonderful wood that is well cared for.

We were road trip tired so stopped over-night at this complex. And of course had dinner at the restaurant. Average meat and potatoes, burgers, etc. kinda of cafe with a large, efficient, and very friendly wait staff. The whole place seems to be a cross between the Madonna Inn and Disneyland. (But in a fun way!) And you will need a little fun on this long and boring Interstate 5 drive. This is a major semi-truck stop hub. And there are quite a few people living in their cars just down the street...The restaurant I would recommend, but the hotel stay not so much.

I-5 through Middle California is a slot-car race pitting 18-wheelers against Left-coasters in their expensive machines. A stop at this particular Starbucks will energize you for the remainder of the trip (north OR south).

We make a concerted effort to stop in Gustine and buy sausage to bring home from Wolfsen's whenever we are in the area.
The imagination and care that goes into their numerous sausage flavors is amazing - it doesn't seem like there could be a bigger selection anywhere. Every style that we have tried have all been consistently delicious.
Most are offered fresh or frozen. The staff is friendly and helpful.
They also make sandwiches but our timing has always been off to eat there - maybe next time - and there will be a next time!

Finding this hidden gem is well worth the drive and adventure getting to the restaurant. It is located on the old Stevinson Golf Course outside the town of Stevinson. I smelled the aroma/char of grilling before realizing we had reached out destination. It is an unassuming wood building surrounded by a grove of trees next to a small stream/canal of water. I had made reservations and was a little shocked when we walked inside the establishment because it is simple. Long bar, wood tables and a front reception area by the kitchen. Don't let the rustic look fool you, the food is great. We started with the New York Steak bites with Blue Cheese butter. The waitress made sure the steak was cooked to both our prefrences. Moved on to the grilled pork chop stuffed with apple chorizo stuffing and baby asparagas. My friend had the Jambalaya and salad side, while I tried the Clam Chowder. The Chowder was the perfect consistency, not too thick or thin full of clams, potatoes, celery, herbs and had an excellent flavor. The Pork Chop was unlike anything I had every had, cooked perfect. The flavor of apple permeated the meat without being sweet, wonderful. My friends Jambalaya was full of large shrimp, sausage and chicken, every bite was a burst of flavor. The dinner salad was fresh full of mixed greens, with a goat cheese and your choice of dressing. I am going back for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks as often as possible. You will not be disappointed.

Found this place off Interstate 5, in Newman, CA, when we didn't want another breakfast at a chain. The little town was cute, the restaurant was great. Cheerful, attentive waitstaff, down to earth atmosphere. Linguisa and eggs for me, Chicken-fried steak for my husband. Quick, hot, tasty. What more do you want when on a road-trip? Worth the few miles off our path, would certainly do it again should be pass this way again.

At In-N-Out Burger, quality is everything. Stop by to enjoy our menu of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, french fries and shakes. In-N-Out makes fast food the old fashioned way.
Traveling on I-5 from San Francisco to LA, you don't have a wide variety of choices when looking for a lunch stop. The In-N-Out Burger location in Santa Nella is well-place for a lunch stop on the way South. Double Cheeseburger with fries. Delicious.

Looks older, feels older. But was really good food. We both had the bacon Texas burger. My first question was, what makes it a Texas burger? She said the patty size is bigger than your standard which is known in Texas I suppose. Nothing special but meets those cravings of an ol fashion burger. Fries are crinkle fries which are yummy. Ice in drinks are crushed ice which I love. I'd stop in again.

When you walk in the place looks like a country bar, but the food is very good. The bartender/cook was very accommodating about splitting the entrees and giving us extra side dishes. An unexpected pleasure to find this place.

We had dinner at Hermanas Cafe (also now called "Lila's" - a relative?) at the suggestion of the folks at Stevinson Ranch golf course. The food was excellent and authentic. No frills - and no margaritas! - but very yummy. The restaurant is small and homey, friendly service, locals coming in to eat. We would definitely go back if in the area.
