So Cafe Aspen is very close to Ryokan Kiyoshigekan. Due to this, on our very first day in Kusatsu we visited Cafe Aspen. And kept visiting until we left :) The owner is a lovely lady called Rika san who runs the place with her family. She speaks English!! To someone who has been living and traveling around in Japan for the last 3 months, trust me that means a lot! They made the freshest pasta and pizza (esp their pizza) I have ever tasted. Reasonable prices of course. And amazing service. So if you are ever in Kusatsu, look them up and do make sure you experience their wonderful hospitality. We sure will! :)

Enza Cafe is situated close to the famous Snow Monkey Park, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy delicious local food, drinks and home-made desserts while surrounded by the beautiful sights of Nagano prefecture's mountains and trees.
We stopped here for coffee, tea and a bathroom break during our visits to the snow monkey park. On the second day, they were super nice to call a taxi for us to take us to the Yudanaka station.

Crumpet is a yeast and flour based traditional British bread snack, having crispy outside/fluffy inside in texture, and can be enjoyed as a savory/sweet with a variety of toppings. Opened in December, 2014 as the first crumpet specialty store in Japan at
We stopped here for breakfast first thing and it was the perfect way to start our day - we got the tuna melt and Granny Smith w/ cream cheese crumpets along with a latte and mocha and was pleasantly surprised at the quality espresso they have! The owner and employees were also fun to chat with. Being from Seattle, we compared it to the Crumpet Shop in Pike Place and it was very much on par with what we were hoping for! After talking with the owner, we realized he gained his inspiration from the Seattle shop and of course it made us even more partial to the establishment :) The whole atmosphere is great and they have some big tables with propane heaters in the middle that are super nice to warm up during your break. And when you step outside to the viewpoint, hopefully there's not a lot of clouds because the view is exquisite. Definitely visit this cafe during your visit to Shiga Kogen!
