KFC in Zhuhai can provide the delicious finger-lickin' good Colonel Sanders chicken in both traditional and crunchy styles. The prices are competitive, and while they do offer chicken, the reader should note that a Chinese KFC has a different menu than an American KFC.First of all, the KFC offers mashed potatoes! That's the great news. As an expat, you have no idea how little things like eating some mashed potatoes can do as comfort food. Now for the bad news, the Chinese think that it is mashed to make it easy for a baby to eat. So the serving side is very small. Heck, I have seen free sample containers bigger than the container that they serve the mashed potatoes in.Ugh...More bad news. No coleslaw! I don't know what it is with China, but finding some coleslaw has been a trail that I have had to deal with for years. The few restaurants that carry it, often do not have it in stock.Ugh... No buttermilk biscuits. But you can get rice. Though, as an American expat, it's a bit of a let down. The Chinese staff, and the management makes sure that they select the best looking pieces when they serve you. The woman who got my chicken went though maybe eight pieces before she settled on a piece for me. The problem is that in the Chinese mind, the breast is the most undesirable piece of chicken, instead legs are considered to be most desirable. So to prevent this mistake of good-intentions from occurring to you, ask for chicken breast specifically. Say "Wo yao Ji xiong."You can buy a bucket of chicken. It won't have coleslaw and biscuits, but it will have other things, and it is a great value. They have a decent breakfast menu as well. I like their congee, though my Chinese wife doesn't. The breakfast sandwiches are ok.

When I discovered that there was a Subway restaurant in Zhuhai, I immediately had to go and visit it. I was pleased to know that it was in the biggest mall in Zhuhai, so I figured that it would be easy to find. Not so. This mall is the mall that not only houses the supermarket Carrefour, but has a Starbucks, McDonalds, and a KFC. So you would think that finding a Subway would be easy. Not so. It is tucked in off to the side. It is next to UNIQUO clothing. Which is easy to find. However, you have to either go into to UNIQUO and then pass through the side door towards the rear, or go around UNIQUO, pass the other clothing stores, make a left down the side hallway. Then make another left when that hall way makes a T intersection. It is off to your left.Subway fast food is perhaps the best there is, and if you don't know this, then there is not point in reading this review, is there? I went there because of my desire to have a real hoagie, Poor Boy, Grinder, or Subway sandwich. It was not disappointing. The atmosphere was a American clone. You would even believe that you were in the USA, if it wasn't for the Chinese translations near each picture. Their menu is slightly more limiting than the USA menu, with only about 80% of the sandwiches represented. Still that was enough. Prices were the same as the USA. In the USA, a $5 subway costs 30 RMB in China. There is no cost break. Thus, by Chinese standards, it is a little pricey. But, who cares, this is a SUBWAY!When I first went there, they only had one girl working behind the counter. Not the two to three normally employed elsewhere in the USA and the UK. Thus, people would get in line and leave after waiting for 15 minutes. I saw this happen over and over. They were losing easily 60% of their peak lunch hour business repeatedly. Luckily I have seen that change,as when I ate my tuna sub yesterday there were two girls behind the counter. YAY!The food is genuine. All items fresh. The way they are made is standard. No complaints. They have daily specials, and that is certainly welcome. My big complaint is that they do not have a meatball sub. That is my all-time favorite. But they seem to have most everything else from the selection to the Lays potato chips and fresh cookies. I have seen both westerners and local Chinese eat there. It is popular with those in the know.Would I go again? Yes, you can absolutely guarantee it.
