Discover Restaurants offering the best Dutch food in Appingedam, Groningen Province, The Netherlands. Appingedam (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɑpɪŋəˈdɑm] ( listen); Gronings: n Daam) is a municipality and a city in the northeastern Netherlands. Although there is no certainty as to the exact age of Appingedam, historical research demonstrates that the place in which the city would eventually be built had been inhabited for over a millennium. Specifically, the area in which the earliest traces of human settlements have been reported is the Wierde, a quarter located in the northern part of the city centre. Today, a narrow, winding street by the same name runs along the waterfront as a living testimony to the times gone by. The characteristic landmarks of the old Wierde are still recognizable today: the historical East-West Canal, called “Diep,” dug to the south of the Wierde, diked on both sides, still defines the unique layout of the downtown Appingedam.

Came as a family of four with two teenage kids. Service was very good, food excellent, atmosphere very nice indeed. Sometimes not many people are in and it is alittle flat. My only other comment is I only would like the owner (wife) to be a little more engaging with guests. Every time we come here the quality is consistently high. My compliments to the chef!

We went here over the weekend while visiting a friend outside of Groningen. She went here a long time ago and remembered it, so we all went there. The food was VERY good! We went there without a reservation and they still had a table for us. Within 30 minutes, almost the entire place was full! We were so lucky to get a table. We found out that our table was double booked, so our services was a little faster than normal (No complain here).Everything was very good. The meals were displayed very nice, the food tasted delicious and the server was very nice and helped explain what some of the items were on the menu were. The only negative thing I have to say about the place, is it was VERY hot in the building. I have a feeling the combination of all the people and no windows/doors open, we were sweating. So I am marking off for only that. Everything else was perfect! Photos included also!

We visited the restaurant during Delfsail with a large group. We had made a reservating and our time was limited, so we had informed the restaurant on forehand. We received our starter, maincourse and dessert right on time. So we had a pleasant dinner and finished in time. Presentation and quality of our food was quite good and the the restaurant has a very pleasant interior.
Our family gathered together for a fantastic "Milestone Dinner" for my Great Aunt's 99th. Birthday! This was my first experience at this restaurant & was not dissappointed with the food & atmosphere! We all enjoyed the evening, plus the service was very pleasant & efficent. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any function or party!!

The "Dijkstraat" is the main pedestrian area of Appingedam. Behind the houses runs the small local river the "Damsterdiep". That day we visited Appingedam it was glorious weather; we had spotted the garden of "De Koning van Groningen" (The King of Groningen) with the chairs, tables and sun umbrellas from across the Damsterdiep. "De Koning van Groningen" offers sandwiches, fast food and warm and cold drinks. Settling down in the garden at a table in the shade we were pleasantly surprised that table service was operating; in comparable establishments you have to order at the counter. Nothing wrong with that, but table service adds of course a layer of luxury. What can I say. The shaded seats in the garden at the historical Damsterdiep were enjoyable, the beer was cold, the food OK and the service polite and to-the-point. To be recommended for a simple, enjoyable, inexpensive lunch.

The best coffey in town served by pleasant staff. Terras on the back side near the canal. They serve also a nice lunch with home made products.
Echt waar! Van harte aanbevolen.

We had some fish and French fries with beer on a warm Spring day. The place is located over the canal, opposite the church. The servings were good and the quality of the food very good. Only downside is the lack of speed. We were served so slowly it took us 2 hours to have lunch. Basically, we gave up coffee to be able to move on. Otherwise, we recommend it 100 %. Very unpretentious and laid back.

The lunch menu here is not extensive but the food delicious, well prepared and presented. The soup was smooth and tasty and the rolls generously filled. The room was sumptuous with high ceilings, a warm cosy log fire, interesting architecture and stained glass windows. The service was friendly and efficient. All in all an excellent lunch.

fantastic food: from excellent ala carte (cote de boeuf) to chefs surprise 5-course dinner we had. Fresh northsea lobster and coquilles, succulent tartar and two types of dry-aged beef followed by a fabulous trio of strawberry& raspberry. And what makes it extra ordinary is the highly affordable prices- star level cooking for the price you would pay for an ordinary fish&chips in Amsterdam. and thw wine list is also an invitation to endulge in stead af a walletsucker. The venue is also very special, an old church located in pittoresque appingedam.definitely worth coming from Groningen or anywhere else in the region for either lunch or dinner.
