Group of us arrived for lunch. Menu expensive by Cuban standards. Usual suspects of plaintain, rice, beans, shredded raw cabbage... The fish was describable and unidentifiable . Tasted and looked like cat food. Staff too busy talking to each other to show any interest whatsoever. Most of the group did not even touch their food. Worst food and service in four weeks in Cuba. To be avoided.

We ate here a couple of times during our stay in Bayamo. The food was consistently good. They don't stock hard liquor so no Mojitoes but do have beer so I was fine. My wife had bottled water. The waitress we had spoke excellent English and gave us very good service. The food was fresh and hot when it arrived and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. If we were going to go back to Bayamo we would go back to the Polinesio.

We popped in for lunch after exploring Bayamo in the morning. It was after Easter and there was some sort of library festival in town. Lots of school children and festivities going on around the square. The restaurant had a choice of 4 meat dishes for mains, a salad or soup entrée and a mango syrup for dessert. The salad was fairly ordinary, the meat dish (we had pork) was tasty, but the mango syrup is an acquired taste. On this day, there was a political meeting going on next door which prevented the all-girl band from performing until near the end of the meal. A pity, because from the small bit we heard, they were quite good. The restaurant overlooks the river ravine and jungle. The restaurant occasionally has small groups.

There is a bar and waiting area downstairs and the restaurant is upstairs. We sat for 5 minutes and then were told that our table was ready. I thought that this might be a swanky joint from first glance but we left feeling almost ill and still hungry. We ordered our food and while we waited we tried a bottle of their wine (50 CUP). This had to be the most bogus vino that I ever laid taste to in my life. Seriously, I didn't know whether to drink it, or pour some on the floor, get on my knees and start scrubbing. Mr. Clean has nothing on this product. After a long wait the food finally arrived and we not too thrilled by that either. The nerve of this establishment demanding long pants for men and then serving up a bottle of something that didn't amount to anything more than turpentine.

If you are determined to eat out in Bayamo, this place is probably worth a visit. It is a delightfully atmospheric place, with about 6 or 7 tables, located in an upstairs terrace. The food quality of several of the dishes was very good, although service was painfully slow and the were a number of amateurish lapses. At the end of the meal, the bill was presented in the form of an incomprehensible scroll. Apparently because we had some Spanish skills, the amount in National pesos was accurately translated into CUC and the total was quite reasonable, however the waitress appeared to try to scam the tourists at the next table. Management should step up and inject more professionalism, because this is a shame.
