We are often in Epinal and usually eat at the Michelin-starred Ducs de Lorraine, so the bar is set high and M. Grandclaude's cuisine, although impressive, just failed to reach that level. The restaurant is tiny, but nicely decorated and with enough space between the few tables. The service was impeccable. We visited at lunchtime. The menu selection is very small, which doesn't bother us as there is nothing we don't eat, but this might be a problem for some and they should check the current menu before committing. My wife chose the 3-course Menu Ãvasion at Euro 32 and I the 4-course Menu Flaveur. The starter was hugely promising - a beautifully 'reinterpreted' version of a salade Vosgienne, normally a rather simple peasant dish, but in this form great to look at and quite delicious. My fish dish was bream with tomatoes, broad beans and feta, and it was good; the deep-fried fish skin was a nice touch. Our main dish was purple artichoke with duck, raspberries and beetroot pulp. Neither of us thought this was a very good dish; the artichoke and duck were rather bland, and what taste there was was overwhelmed by the beetroot. Our desserts were tasty and nicely presented - cherries with honey and muscat for me and a pineapple and mango babajito for my wife. We drank house wine and rounded off with coffees. We will return a second time in the months to come, but the Ducs de Lorraine remains our clear favourite in Epinal.

We booked several days ahead and were pleased to find on the evening that we had been placed outside on a balmy summer evening. One waitress served a large number of tables with speed, courtesy and efficiency. We chose the menu of the day (26 euros). Aperitifs included excellent tapenade but soggy croutons. Starter - tartare of 2 salmon was absolutely delicious. Magret de canard with apricots was fine but would have been better if it had been more rare. The dessert was a big let down for all in our party (we each tried different ones).

We have eaten at Le Bistrot several times and experienced some wonderful flavour combinations with a real emphasis on quality ingredients which makes for fabulous food. The location is lovely with a gorgeous terrace, great hospitality and great array of wines to compliment the food. Service is excellent and friendly and there is a real sense of a chef that cares and is passionate about giving diners the best local seasonal ingredients cooked to perfection.....definitely the place to visit in gorgeous Epinal

Although this is a chain-restaurant, the meals and service were excellent. They have developed a great system for delivering a wide variety of 'mussel meals' that are hot, tasty and affordable. No surprises, just good food at reasonable prices, served promptly with a smile!

We are on the way to go to Switzerland. And I think if we didn't know this place by tripadviser, most likely we just passed by car. The lunch of the day is 15euro for 3 course menu. I had goat cheese terrine with Sun dried tomato & basil sauce for start. Absolutely delicious. Main was home made sausage & fried potatos. The sausage was huge! The dessert was normally cheese plata but they sold out so they gave me coffee cream brulee. I thought it was really good deal & must go for lunch!Dear Makichan,Thank you very much for this advice. We are glad you enjoyed your lunch at la Mansarde. We hope to see you again next time you visit France.Best Regards,
