Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve

Nestled at the foot of the Sneeuberg Mountain Range in South Africa, Mount Camdeboo is home to an impressive spectrum of wildlife such as white rhino, cape buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, mountain zebra, a host of antelope. If remote R&R is what you need, then the on-site spa and the constantly evolving menu of wholesome, locally inspired, refined cuisine, will do wonders for body and soul. Accommodation is in three beautifully restored, gracious gabled manors each with spacious gardens and swimming pools, and one with an additional secluded cottage. For those looking for something under canvas, two luxurious and privately located en-suite safari tents provide sweeping views over the reserve. This is a place of sweeping panoramas and undulating escarpments, extraordinary plant, animal diversity and a deeply rooted cultural heritage.

Great game drives; great accommodation, great hospitality in beautiful location

Stayed 3 nights which for us was perfect duration as the reserve covers a large area so enables 6 game drives. A big call out to Ryan (our guide) as well as all the staff. They could not have been more welcoming and Ryan’s knowledge was fantastic. Accommodation was first class as was every meal. Great wine selection. Would highly recommend.

Avondrust Guest House and B&B

In the heart of Graaff-Reinet lies Avondrust, an imposing Guest House and B&B. Built in 1911 it offers you 4000m2 of gracious living as its philosophy. History Of Avondrust Guest House Avondrust - A Home from Home in the Karoo Cradled in a loop of the Sundays River, the Karoo town of Graaff-Reinet is home to some 200 national monuments. Around every corner a piece of history is revealed to the visitor. And it is here, in the centre of town, that Merino sheep farmer and breeder, Jan Stephanus Minnaar, built his dream house during 1911. Avondrust ("evening rest") was to be his retirement home. He lived here with his wife, Maria Magdalena Smuts, "Ouma Smuts". After he passed away, his daughter, Cora Luckhoff inherited Avondrust. Cora did not want to live in the house and sold it to her brother, Eduard Smuts (Eddie) Minnaar. After his and his wife's death, Cyril Minnaar bought Avondrust from the estate. His grandfather was Jan Minnaar's brother. Accommodation is offered on a bed and breakfast basis. During the 1990's, the Van Hoffen Family converted the house into a guesthouse. It is still a home away from home for guests today with Nico Hattingh and Tess Erlank as the current owners.

Amazing service ahead of arrival

Reviewed By 919emmanuellen

Natasha has been the most amazing host ahead of our arrival planned for 28-30 December. She contacted me ahead of time via whatsapp and offered to make a restaurant booking for us for our first night. She also let us know that our rooms were ready before check-in time if we wanted to go there a little earlier. In the end we had to cancel our booking because of hurdles on the road - and once again she was there giving me advice. The guest house has been most gracious and accommodating with our problems along the road. The place looks great on pictures, and now we will have to make new plans in a few months time to go there and meet Natasha in person. I have not experienced this kind of service for a long time.
