Lying about 15 miles northeast of Rotterdam, Gouda is most famous for its eponymous cheese. One of its most prized attractions, De Waag on the town square, was once a weighing house for cheese traders and now features an exhibit detailing the entire cheese making process. Also on the square is the 15th-century town hall, one of the oldest in the Netherlands. On Thursday mornings during the summer, the town’s Markt turns back into a traditional cheese market, something not to be missed.

Every year we visit Brunel to celebrate our mother's birthday. Long-time owners Sjoerd and Irma and their crew succeed again and again in maintaining a high level of hospitality and a great kitchen so we will surely be back again (anyway next year)!

Visited this restaurant with a large party from work.
The restaurant had offered each of us a starter consisting of five samples of their starters and a choice of three main courses.
The presentation of the starters was excellent and they all tasted superb.
The main course was also very good.
One little issue was that many of us were beer drinkers and the restaurant had a limited choice and actually ran out of the preferred choice for many in the party.
We also noticed that the restaurant was not very busy. Maybe in the summer it is more popular.

GREAT RESTAURANT!! We saw it on Michelin book and drawn in by "house-made smoked salmon", and it didn't fail our expectation. Wonderfully smoky, slightly sweet, great texture and mouthful overall. Jean Marie chef was also so nice to show us the smoking process. Highly recommend to anyone who travel to Gouda, it ended our trip with a mesmorizing dining experience.

Having tested several Indian restaurants over the last few months in different cities, New Tandoor was a disappointment. The restaurant is cosy, but for all the other parameters it was below all my recent experiences with Indian food. The service is very slow and everything but warm. Quantities are not generous, taste/texture of the food is not exceptional, and all this comes at a price I estimate a bit expensive. Overall an okay place for a peacful dinner but nothing to die for.

We were staying over in Leiden but felt a trip to Gouda was a must. To buy cheese there just sounded so fun. We had lunch here as it is right in the town square. We had a couple great local beers and really good burgers. The service was a little slow but they were quite busy. I would definitely recommend this place but I wouldn't be in a hurry. They stay very busy.

2801 LA Gouda
I decided to give this place a try after Reading the reviews and it definitely did not disappoint. The food was excellent -I especially liked the lamb curry starter- and the wine was really good too. The staff was professional and friendly and the restaurant has a nice and relaxed ambiance. One of the best places in the city and perhaps even in the province. Worth taking a detour for if you're in the area.

The Grand Cafe was founded in 1916 by the grand parents of the current owner. The expertise of almost 100 years hospitality makes this a unique place. The drive for best service and quality is the motivator to serve our guests. At a fair price we will welcome you and provide you with all the good things Gouda has to offer! For lunch, dinner, drinks and of course our world famous applepie we are opened 7 days a week. Looking foreward pampering you!
We made a Sunday day trip to the lovely little town of Gouda. Train tickets from Utrecht Central cost €13.60 return per person. It was very quiet when we arrived but around lunchtime it began to get a little busier. We stopped off for coffee and cake at the Grand Central Cafe to rest our weary legs. Two coffees and two cakes cost us €13.95. There was a brass band playing in the square.
Service with a smile.

This is amazing chocolate. This small shop makes the chocolates itself and the taste is amazing. All variaties of chocolates are amazing to see and taste. Don't hesitate to talk to the owner, he will happily tell you about his work.

Very nice restaurant in the heart of the City Center. The restaurant is upstairs, so don't be fooled if there is nobody in the small bar on the ground floor. The food is excellent, great flavours. Great choice of starters or enjoy them all in a big platter. Main courses we had a delicious duck and great catch of the day. Also great dishes. They have a very good winelist as well. Service is very attentive and friendly. After a nice coffee we asked for the check, which was also pleasant. Very much value for your money. I recommend this place!

I so enjoy the experience when I happen on an excellent place unexpectedly. This evening I was in Gouda wandering around enjoying the architecture when the heavens opened. I took shelter in a doorway. It was this restaurant. I smiled at the sign: "a meal without wine is called breakfast" and thought it my sort of place so went in even though it was early. The food is quite outstanding. I had the black ravioli. The service I experienced was excellent. It is not cheap but food this good should not be. It is an art form. I was not surprised to get home and find it is the top restaurant in Gouda.
