This stunning backcountry retreat sits on the lakeshore 45 minutes outside Queenstown in the Southern Alps New Zealand. Lofty beamed ceilings, rock fireplaces and vast picture windows frame the heroic stone and timber lodge housing the Great Room, Den, Game Room, Gym, spa and several indoor/outdoor dining venues.Thirteen rooms offer every conceivable amenity. Activities include an outdoor lap pool, bush walks, fly-fishing, jet boating, horse riding and scenic heli-flights
We recently spent 3 nights at Blanket Bay with friends to celebrate my husband's birthday and had an absolutely wonderful time. We have stayed in some amazing places around the world and Blanket Bay can definitely compete on the world stage. The care, attention to detail and pride that each and every staff member took in their work was amazing. This particularly showed in the kitchen where every meal was different and the kitchen staff really went out of their way to showcase local produce and present something delicious each and every time. The service, atmosphere and warmth of welcome provided was second to none and neither my husband nor I could find fault in any aspect of our stay and that will definitely make this a trip to remember. We would most certainly recommend Blanket Bay highly to anyone that asks and we hope to be able to return again ourselves at some stage in the near future.

Eight comfortable studio suites close to the center of Glenorchy. Suites have configurations of either super king sized beds or king/queen beds some with an additional 1-2 single beds, en-suite, kitchen (except room 8), TV heat pump air conditioning and are serviced daily.
We stopped over at Glenorchy for a night and stayed at Glenorchy Motel. It was a lovely motel, with friendly staff. Centrally located, it was a short walk down to the lake or to the shops. A beautiful view of mountains from front and behind the motel. Comfortable beds with electric blankets and a heater in the room, which was appreciated on the 7°C “summer” day we had last week!!

Toni and John looked after us from the first call to book through to the exit. Nothing was too difficult to manage. We had the most amazing vegan food delivered to our room, a beautiful breakfast made with vegan yoghurt. The view was awesome, we lay in bed and relaxed, didn’t need TV the view constantly changing sky and the views of the river delta changing throughout the day into dusk were spectacular. This place is a hidden gem and if you are pausing thinking about booking. Book it! Truely grateful for the opportunity to experience this wonderful place and the humble beautiful owners and hospitality we experienced.

Set in a spectacular setting on the lakefront opposite Glenorchy township between the Routeburn and Greenstone tracks, a stay at Kinloch Wilderness Retreat is a highlight of any holiday. With a variety of room types, including shared dorms, private doubles, family rooms and heritage queen rooms, there's something for everyone. Our 13 Wilderness rooms are YHA associated and our Heritage lodge, with 6 rooms, dates back to 1868. The site can be hired in sections or as a whole, and there are great discounts for longer stays in all rooms and groupings. There's a cosy restaurant on site, hot tub with a view, bikes and fishing rods for hire, kayak trips in the summer and a TV room for those looking to relax. For those wishing to self-cater we have a communal kitchen, BBQ facilities and inside and outdoor seating. Kinloch is a haven for walkers, fishermen and people who want to be immersed in their natural environment. There are many activities in the area which we are happy to help organise, we offer track transport and a boat between Glenorchy and Kinloch; we can arrange transport for those without a car.
My father and I stayed in the Tui room for a night before doing the Routeburn. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It's a stunning spot in the world and well worth a stay. Hopefully next time we'll spend a little longer.

WiFi reasonable, FreeView on TV, good sized breakfast with bread, croissants, salami, cheese, yoghurt, friut, muffins etc delivered the night before (we ended up snacking before going to sleep), ample parking, great views, good Spa. The bed was very nice and the room super-clean. This B&B is a few minutes drive north of Glenorchy and easy to find

Casual luxury in a remarkable setting. Glenorchy Lake House is surrounded by mountains and one of the closest properties to Lake Wakatipu. You'll find comfortable beds, tasteful decor and an outdoor therapeutic massaging spa perfect for star-gazing. A freshly prepared breakfast tray is left for you to enjoy at your leisure. All this just a 45 minute incredibly scenic drive from Queenstown.
This Boutique Bed and Breakfast had a pleasant hot tub plus, the accommodation itself was adequate for the price, however I was disappointed to learn that the deposit taken as part of the booking consisted of the full payment for the two nights we stayed meaning they had the use of my money for 14 days this was not a deposit but full payment. It advertises as a bed and breakfast however the breakfast is only available if you book direct . The site we booked on and all others I checked after the event declared that the room would be serviced. This did not happen. We would not recommend this B&B.
