Fantastic wee hotel, close to transport links. Good sized room, very clean, lovely staff.

Booked this for my brother who needed a place to stay for a few days. This is a great wee hotel just 2 miles from the city centre and a 10 minute walk from Hampden Stadium. Excellent price for a large double room, good en-suite with powerful shower. Garden area to the rear of the hotel with picnic tables. Spotless. Lovely staff. Bro forgot his charger plug and reception lent him one but turns out there were 3 USB points in the room. I noticed a previous reviewer said there were none so maybe they were in a different room or just didn’t notice them. Would definitely recommend this, as even though no restaurant/bar there are loads of good places within easy walking distance.

This is a beautiful well established hotel with a very stylish restaurant. We stayed in room 5 which was very small and dark however the room was well laid out, very clean and bed was amazing! Lovely bathroom with a good shower. Room 5 ov erlooks the back of the hotel and a flat roof. On the roof are a number of extraction fans which are very noisy. These are on until late and start again very early morning. Even with the windows closed, these could be heard. So for me, absolutely no chance of a siesta or being able to sleep beyond 7am ish. The windows in this room have frosted glass and this makes the room quite dark. The lady checking us in was amazing, very friendly and professional. So all in all a really lovely place but room 5 in my experience of it should not be £120 saying as I didn't get a full sleep or relaxing time because if the awful noise from the extractor fans. Very disappointing.

A Room Fit for Alfred Hitchcock

Reviewed By Jules_the_explorer

I am amazed at the positive reviews regarding this place; and perhaps I just had a terrible experience. But let me set the scene. I arrived at the Guest House, and was a little surprised I had to attend across the street to check in. In any event, after touring around the block in my rental car for a few laps, I was able to find some temporary street parking and walk to the "check-in" in desk across the street from my accommodations. When I got into the small check in room, in front of me was a young woman sitting behind heavy plexiglass which was covered with old sticky residue from previous flyers/signs once removed. I realize this is from the COVID pandemic - but could the Plexiglass not be cleaned? While the young woman was adequately pleasant, the rest of the short experience there was not. First, even though I had already paid for my stay through my travel agent, she wanted a further credit card deposit. Not a huge deal - but I am still waiting for that charge to be refunded. I had been told that off street parking was included in my stay. The young woman looked at a security video camera and said there was one spot open and I need to hurry to get to it. When I inquired about if I left with the car and got back and there were no spots in the weird alleyway, where could I park - I was advised I would be "on my own". As to the room. Let me start by saying I was a young woman travelling by myself. The room was across the street, and there is no staff there other than cleaning staff during the day. My allocated room was the first room in the door. Great for lugging in. suitcases - but that is about where the positives ended. The dead bolt on the door did not work. A little alarming during the evening when I am in the room alone. The entryway was dark and dingy - likely a design choice to hide the dirt, scuffs and peeling wallpaper in this little area. A sharp turn to the right through another scuffed, damaged door was the sleeping area. Appointed with a sagging double-bed and a sad looking single, the room was large, but very, very tired. The website states that this place was updated recently. If by recently they mean the year 1992 - then, yes it was recently updated. The wallpaper was peeling and buckling off the walls, the "art" which seemed to have been purchased up from a retirement home boot sale, was quite literally screwed into the wall - heaven forbid someone try to take the sad faded poster picture of a flower pot. One of the spoons on the tea caddy was dirty and had clearly ben used as evidenced by lip marks on the spoon. The window in the sleeping area was open when I arrived, and opened onto a dark alleyway (a different one from where my rental car was situated). I could not get the window to close, maybe a locking mechanism issue? I sat on the sagging double bed for a moment, and thought - okay not great, but what about the bathroom. Well, not much improvement. Back into the dark entranceway, and another sharp turn to the right the large but institutional looking bathroom. There was curiously no soap or shampoo - and I had not packed any for my trip. This might have been an oversight, towels on the rack with a sign about preserving water which had been zip-tied to the towel bar. And then there was the toilet, not only were there splatter marks on the toilet seat, was the hair on the toilet seat as well. (ew) The loo roll was in one of those industrial dispensers where you can only get one sheet at a time - not a deal breaker - but the whole thing made me feel as though I was not at a B&B but rather... ...a HOSTEL. A high-end hostel maybe, but a hostel nonetheless. Deflated, I walked passed the peeling wallpaper back into the sleeping room and switched on the overhead light, which started flickering like a scene in a horror film right before the protagonist has their head removed by a troubled masked crazed person. Also just headache inducing. I could not stay here. The toilet was dirty, the bed was sagging, the wallpaper peeling, the dead bolt was not operational and that dark alley out the back - I had vivd images of this room in a suspense film. I quickly called my travel agent, who stated he would "see what he could do" and told me he was surprised as this accommodation came so highly recommended. I waited some time then decided to take matters into my own hands and booked a new place to stay. Not ideal, but it was getting late and I had not heard anything back. When I got back across the street to the check-in desk with the plexiglass clouded by sticky residue, I overheard the young woman talking to my agent. "No, all of our rooms are of that standard..." "some of the locks work, some don't..." "no I can't move her to another room...we are pretty booked..." At this I interrupted: if that is my travel agent, tell him I have found somewhere else to stay. She relayed to him call me later. I returned the key card and advised I could not stay here. When I told her the reasons why she said that they usually have pretty good cleaning service (she did not discuss the flickering lights, the lack of soap/shampoo/sagging bed/window issues). I advised her in this case it was not clean, and since I could not be moved, I would not stay here, and I had found alternative accommodations. I walked back to the dark alleyway to retrieve the rental car, and made my way to the new hotel. I would say this: if you are looking for an upscale hostel, and are not as worried about security or cleanliness as myself, this might be the perfect place for you. (I sadly have no pictures - I was so distraught I forgot to take any)

My first choice now for Glasgow stays

I really rated my first stay at the Crookston and have stayed a few times since. Very good value for money, clean basic and comfortable. All staff really friendly and welcoming, good atmosphere in the bar, and tasty good value food available. I came to attend a music event in the Southside, well located for bus and train travel into Glasgow, and out to Paisley and beyond. For a continental breakfast to be included was even better good value. Great Glaswegian hospitality ?

The hosts were absolutely amazing. Eric and Leslie received our weary, traveling family with grace. Great dinner recommendation and even joined us for a pint while we watched a match at a local restaurant. The location is wonderful and quiet and the accommodations were a great value for the money. Breakfast was perfect and we leave feeling not only satisfied with our stay, but also like we have friends in Glasgow. Highly recommended and we would stay here again without question.

Small, quirky rooms in a great location!

Reviewed By DoglawyerATX

Small little hotel filled with quirky, charming rooms. The staff can’t do enough to help you, especially Marion. Ask for what sort of room you want. We asked for quiet, and definitely got it. But it was too warm for us, so we might ask for a cooler room if returning. The bathroom has a glass door, which in addition to not providing much privacy, resulted in sunlight coming in the bedroom through the bathroom window, which is frosted, but has no blinds. There are blackout curtains on the window in the room. I’m assuming all the rooms were different, so just ask about any room you are considering if you are sensitive to light when you sleep (it get’s light EARLY here). Our room was very small and there was not much space for clothes as there are no drawers and just a sort of tiny hanging space in the corner. If you pack heavy the lack of a place to unpack combined with little floor space might be a problem. We asked about a luggage rack, which would have made things easier not having to get down on the floor to dig through our suitcase, but Megan told us those must be an American thing as American’s always ask for them and she had never heard of them before. Every other hotel we stayed at in Scotland did have luggage racks though, most also had a closet and drawers of some sort as well. The bathroom was nicely redone, but the sink was tiny and that combined with the large decorative faucet meant I swamped the bathroom every time I washed my face and hands. The shower provided plentiful hot water and had good pressure. We learned to leave the water heater on ECO to keep the water temperature regulated. Lastly the provided breakfast was more than ample for us, though others did complain. The croissants were fabulous and the berries provided were great one day. One day the breakfast spread seemed to never be replenished (empty juice containers on the counter, no bread to choose from) and the berries were moldy. I’m guessing that was not the norm and whoever was in charge of the kitchen was just off their game that day as it was so different from our first morning. The best thing about this hotel is it’s location! It’s in a quiet neighborhood but just steps from Glasgow University, The Kelvingrove Museum, Finneston and Argyle Street, Ashton Lane and several public transportation options for getting to other parts of town. There were great restaurants on every other corner and tons of little pubs offering live music. We would definitely stay here again, but would get a bigger, cooler room.

Avoid if you can

Reviewed By lamaisond431

We stayed in apartment 22 on the top floor. The previous guest was still asleep in the bed when my husband arrived. The whole place stank of her cigarette smoke. The recliner sofa was broken, though that didn't become obvious until later. The shower is worse than useless. This may be due to water pressure, but there are plenty of gadgets on the market that can improve this. Despite advertising wifi, the password provided was wrong and we had to wait for this to be resolve. Even once we had the correct password, the signal was so weak it was rendered unusable. We never did gain access to the service we were promised, leaving us unable to receive or respond to emails while at the property. We are both self-employed and being available is crucial. We were forced to deal with a number of issues and enquiries while in restaurants and bars where wifi was available. Not great when you consider that we were in these places to eat and relax. Condoms and baby wipes left in drawers. **The following complaint is rather more serious and, despite emailing Veena, property manager, on two occasions, I have yet to receive any response.** On the Saturday we were out much of the day and again in the evening. Upon our return I noticed that not a single smoke alarm was to be seen. I did however spot a plastic disc above the sitting room door and realised that this was actually the back of a battery powered smoke alarm. So I went looking for the rest of the unit and found it in the drawer. The previous guest possibly put it there to avoid setting it off while smoking. This tells me two things. Firstly the management do not properly respect the welfare of their guests; no check was made to ensure the unit was present. In short they endangered us. Were there a fire in the building we would not have been alerted to this fact and may have died as a result. Secondly they have failed to adhere to the law. The law in Scotland changed on the 1st of February 2022. Every home (and premises rented for the purpose of hosting short term guests) must now have interlinked smoke alarms. These are hardwired into the electricity and cannot be interfered with by smoking guests. If one goes off, they all go off. Failure to provide correctly installed smoke alarms is criminal negligence and I have reported the owners/management to the relevant authorities!
