Stopped on our way to Mount Cook from Christchurch and wanted some coffee and snacks. The new owners, Gail and Ian, were smiling, pleasant and very welcoming. Ian, who does the pastry and baking were very pleasant asking about our trip and where we were from. They have only been the owners for a few months. My husband's coffee was excellent and their homemade pastries were very tasty. Our favorites were the cheese scones and the chocolate biscuits. Since we are Americans, Ian explained what a lollycake is and educated us on some other NZ specials. When we drove away, Gail was waving at us out the window.
I can understand other raters' comments from some time ago, but I would highly recommend a stop to a local, friendly and pleasant owners' new business!

I got poached eggs on toast which were good but, oh, yum, the BlackBerry muffin was to die for. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with juicy blackberries. And I must have got to the cafe at the right time because the muffin was warm. The staff member was friendly but the wrought-iron chair was terribly uncomfortable - but the muffin made up for it!

Garden cafe with great cabinet food or orders from the menu. Gluten free and vegetarian options. Awesome coffee
This popular cafe is open for breakfast and lunch until 4pm. Not open for dinner.
Our group of four arrived for brunch at about 11am and had an excellent meal. One dish (risotto) was not properly cooked and was replaced promptly, without question.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly – obviously very popular with locals.
Brunch for 4 cost $70

We offer good, honest, hearty fare. We are not fine dining, but believe in giving value for money. Our Blue Cod is becoming famous by all our guests who pass this secret on to others. The beers are all brewed on site and have had wonderful reviews from peers and those who like craft beer. Tasting paddles are available so you don't have to commit to just one beer. Our main ethos is to offer excellent, friendly service and give everyone a brilliant experience as they dine, inside or outside in our beautiful rural setting.
A delightful little restaurant attached to a brewery overlooking the bucolic New Zealand countryside. We ate a fine meal, well served and prepared, washed down by their own beers and cider, and when done retired for the night in our camper van which we were...MoreThank you David for discovering us. Hope you have a brilliant holiday as you continue around New Zealand.

The dinner we had was absolutely beautiful. Now I think you let yourself down with several different staff looking after a table. Drinks forgotten... no one checking all is ok with meal and drinks....dessert menu chucked at table no one came back we had to approach bar...one of the ladies who dines with you frequently said a wee regular girl was missing and this showed in service. Give that girl a pat on back as things obviously turn to ‘custard ‘ when she is off on the sunday in first week of February we visited. As I said though food was absolutely amazing

Stopped here on the way from Christchurch to Fairlie.
The cakes and bakes on display were varied and very attractive to a coulpe of hungry travellers.
A warm fruit and a warm cheese scone later, washed down with a very good pot of tea for two did the trick. Very good, but a single pat of butter was just not enough.
Pleasent staff, clean toilets, prompt service...what more could you ask for. A farm shop!!!!....and one backs onto the cafe. Needless to say we made a purchase.....a kilo of dark cherries. Delicious.
Recommended.

We stopped off for a lunch break en-route from Queenstown to Christchurch and came here specifically because they sell Fairlie pies. Staff were friendly enough and more than happy to heat our food, and pop it in a take-away bag. The interior looked welcoming, and it seemed that it would be nice and cosy around the fireplace at winter. We’re back in Geraldine next month and might pop in for another pie, and this time add some hot chips (because they looked delicious).

Blue cod and chips. The cod was perfectly cooked and delicious although a bit small, the chips were the frozen variety so no points there. The service was not great, we found the person serving us to be rather rude, rolling her eyes and tutting when we took too long to order. We were the only customers at the time.

Stopped in for some brunch on a Sunday morning and found the Berry Barn Bakery was one of the few available places open. Delighted that they were as the people were so friendly and the baked goods were delicious. My wife had the spinach scone and I had the date scone, so we shared them and both were extremely good. We also had tea and coffee, both of which were wonderful. Many other bakery items were available but we just couldn't sample them all! Handicap accessible, except for the bathrooms which were down a few steps.
