Really thought the shrimp and grits were excellent. Liked that salad was served family style with a choice of 3 dressings in little pitchers. Ranch dressing was great. Shrimp and grits had excellent flavor with bits of ham or bacon in the grits cakes. Crab legs were good tasting but really difficult to get out of the shell. Like another reviewer said ... too softly cooked or something because it was extra hard to crack them without the meat sticking to the inside of the shell. Excellent service. Waited an hour on a Sunday night at 7 pm. Be prepared for the wait.

Welcome to Bennie's Red Barn, the oldest privately owned restaurant on Saint Simon's Island! Nestled between beautiful live oaks, Bennie's has been a favorite of locals and tourists since 1954. No visit to the Golden Isles is complete without a visit to B
This was a return visit for our family reunion. We had a party of 9 with a reservation. Our server was most pleasant and seemed attentive in the beginning. Appetizers was good, especially the oyster cocktail. After that it was downhill! The salads were mushy and swimming in a thin dressing. Our wait time for entrees was excessive. One steak had to be sent back and was not replaced for 40 minutes at which time our server disappeared. We did speak to the manager and he did reduce our bill but in my opinion that was too late. We were there for more than 2 hours. After our good experience last year this was a huge disappointment.

We came in at 6:30 Sunday evening with 6 adults and a 3 year old. We were immediately informed that they were out of oysters, mussels, & flat bread. We ordered a round of drinks. Our server missed one adultâs drink ad well as the childâs drinkOur appetizers of wings, nachos, & popcorn crawfish were excellent. For dinner 4 of us ordered crab cakes and fried green tomatoes from the appetizer menu along with crab bisque. The other 2 adults ordered a burger and fried shrimp from the main muni. We ordered chicken tenders for the child. The appetizers ordered as entreeâs and the burger arrived promptly after all at the table shared the first order of appetizers. The food was brought out by two food runners who didnât know who had placed the orders so they stopped there are asked who hav ordered what dishes. For some reason, the adults fried shrimp and chicken strips got forgotten. One of us had to leave the table to find someone to fix the mistakes. The other food arrived, and a manager came by to apologize and blame the kitchen staff for the missed orders. All the food was very delicious. We will go back again. We hope they work on some training and organizing skills so that the quality of service matches the quality of the food.
