We attempted to get a table inside for four. We were told 10 minutes and at 22 minutes noticed that two groups of three were seated before us (in areas of four seats). We approached the hostess who said she forgot basically and it would be okay to seat outside (it was beginning to rain), and it would be another 10-25 minutes. We noticed two tables open on the right of door and asked if they could be put together for us to be seated, the hostess said no. We left and went across to Tedâs which is always excellent customer service. This would have been our second attempt to eat here and second time disappointed. Even after calling and speaking with person in charge today (Leora/Lenora-was hard to hear her name), who was very nice. She stated it wouldnât happen again but sadly I and my party will not make a third attempt.

A local family owned and operated restaurant two blocks out of downtown Athens serving affordable but high quality ingredients utilizing locally farmed produce and meats. All breads and pastries made in-house daily. Fabulous outdoor seating on an expansiv
The environment and vibe of this place is one of my favorite in Athens. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are inviting and relaxing and the staff is efficient and pleasant. You order in a line if there is one and they bring your food which all moves quickly and well. The food is all around good and pretty simpleâsoups, sandwiches and good breakfast and coffee offers.

The Grit is surrounded by thriving businesses. Itâs filled with throngs of happy customers who know theyâll get a big delicious meal that just happens to be without meat. They know weâre not food snobs or health police. Only a small portion of our custome
Every time I walked by The Grit something smelled good, we finally had lunch which was very enjoyable. I had the TLT on a homemade bread and a side salad with a zucchini dressing which was unbelievable. I was able to try the back bean chili which was ever good as well. Service was great. Atmosphere was cool with interesting art and just a good feel. I enjoyed very much. Iâll definitely return.

First impression is always lasting! And itâs not good. One hour wait but lots of empty tables?? One bartender who basically ignores you if you at the end of bar. Not impressed. Harry Bissets used to be our favorite Athens restaurant. We were so sad when it closed, and so delighted to find this restaurant, which is apparently owned by the former chef of that restaurant. We enjoyed carpetbagger steak for the first time in years and it was excellent! Thank you!The deviled eggs topped with fried oysters were also perfect.

I had planned on dining at another establishment but it wasnât open at 2 pm so we looked for online and selected âThe Placeâ. Great atmosphere and seasoned Southern cuisine! We had Fried Catfish, Pork Chops, Lima Beans, Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Waldorf Salad, Blackeyed Peas....Carrot Cake for dessert and of course Sweet Tea in a Mason Jar. Great experience!

We met friends for breakfast at Mama's Boy on a busy Saturday morning. Had to wait awhile for a table, but there is outdoor seating and coffee available for purchase while you wait. The wonderful selection on the breakfast menu made it difficult to choose. We thoroughly enjoyed the huge biscuits served with egg choices and the peach French toast was delicious and unique. The service is great and the coffee keeps coming. Totally worth the wait!

Open for lunch Monday - Saturday and dinner daily; our bar also remains open for coffee and tapas during the day 2:30 - 5pm. The idea behind The National is simple: to provide a casual neighborhood gathering spot reminiscent of the bars and cafés weâve en
We recently met friends for dinner at The National. First, could hardly find the place as the signage is extremely small for a restaurant. Our group of seven took up nearly a quarter of the small dining room. The menu is small, about 6 choices for each of the tapas, appetizer and entree categories. Our food was tasty but portions are small. If you are looking for different, this would be the place. Not so much for intimate conversation as it is loud. Our apologies for the difficulty in finding our restaurant! Unfortunately, signage size was limited in the renovation of our historic Recap Plant building. If you keep your eyes open for the Ciné, the arthouse cinema that shares our building, and our signature neon blue lights, you can't miss us!

Award Winning Restaurant With A Strong Catering Branch As Well As A Line Of Nationally Available One-of-a-kind Southern Snacks
My daughter and I were traveling through Athens and were looking for a fun food experience. We happened upon this place and decided to try it based on some of the food descriptions. We made reservations (and I would advise this; it's small and fills up fast). We arrived early and loved the vibe of the place once we got inside. It has unusual offerings such as a squash salad--lettuce, feta cheese, and pecans with roasted butternut squash slices on the side. One of the appetizers was fried cheese curds with a sweet pepper sauce that was delicious. My daughter got cucumber/peach gazpacho that she said was delicious as well as an onion pie. We ended with an intriguing fig cheesecake/flan that was a perfect ending. Everything was obviously fresh and creatively blended. Bravo and we wish you much success!
