Georgia Ranches | Places to Stay in Georgia

April 18, 2023 Myesha Cogley

While Atlanta is the anchor and capital of Georgia, you can aim in any direction to find distinctly different regions – from the tail of the Appalachians in the North to the rolling Piedmont hills and on down to the seaside marshes in the East. Atlanta lays claim to the state’s number one attraction – Stone Mountain State Park. They say it best - “Serious fun. Endless adventure.” Just 15 minutes from downtown, the world’s largest exposed granite dome is surrounded by 3,200 acres of natural beauty and stimulating activities for every member of the family – sky rides and hiking paths, laser shows and pedal boats along Stone Mountain Lake. Golfers tee it up, while red foxes dash across the fairways in a state where the Masters Golf Tournament creates revered green-jacket memories every year. It’s a long downhill ride down to historic Savannah, a ‘stone’s throw’ from the Atlantic and a virtual step back in time to Southern architecture and stately squares. St. Simon’s and Jekyll Islands offer barrier island beauty and a wonderful combination of outdoor activities, historic sites and artistic culture. Originally the private winter playground of wealthy northeasterners, Jekyll Island stretches along 10 miles of coastal beaches and inland marshes. Cycling and walking paths wind under moss-laden oaks, and a tour of Millionaire Village takes you back to those Cornelius Vanderbilt and J.P. Morgan days. The kid-friendly Summer Waves Water Park adds man-made fun to natural water sport activities. Coastal golf courses and sophisticated St. Simon’s Island appeal to moms, dads and vacationing couples.

Well the first visit was during thanksgiving we stayed in Elsa for 4 days. Everything was great Wi-Fi didn’t work but it wasn’t an issue, and it was spotless in the cabin. We left happy. In fact we were so happy we got in contact with the owner while we were still there to book a cabin for a week starting Christmas Day and ending on January 1st. we set everything up through her website where she rents out the cabins as well. She got the payment and everything was all set. So On CHRISTMAS DAY we were on our way to the cabin… which is over 300 miles and 4hrs to get too. An hour in to our trip I emailed and text her for the code to get into our cabin. Her response was “it will automatically be sent to you at 3:00pm) so at 4:00 when we are 4 miles down the road we still have not received our code. And we text her and asked her for the code because we still have not received it yet…. That’s when we were told that she double booked it and we need to go on air B&B and find another place to stay. Yeah she refunded our money that takes up to 10 days to go back into our account and yeah it’s 4:00 on Christmas Day and yes we are all packed 4hrs away from our home and NO WHERE to stay! Yeah I would not recommend her cabins to my worst enemy!!! And by the way you can still find cabins here and on different rental sites and you can still book them. Even though they are booked solid.! Wonder how often they ruin peoples Christmas and other holidays that people take off from work to enjoy but can’t because people like this still exist!!!

Memories to last a lifetime!

This farm stay really was a memory maker. We had so much fun! We stayed for two nights in the room overlooking the animals. It cam with a "roost", (balcony/porch) where Kevin the peacock actually roosted! The first day, when we got there, wasn't our chore day. We explored and went on a hike on one of their trails. The family and staff were very welcoming and helpful. MooMa's lemonade in the barn (lobby/store area) was incredible! We had ordered the roast chicken dinner and chose to eat upstairs. The other option was to eat downstairs in the barn. It was amazing! It came with veggies, bread and of course! Amazing roast chicken. It was cooked to perfection. For desert we had apple pie and homemade ice cream. It was very good but when i had it cold the next day, it was even better! The next day farm chores began. We had breakfast at nine down in the barn with the rest of the family. Really good. (Full country breakfast, bacon, sausages, eggs, grits and biscuits.) Farm chores began at ten. Before breakfast however, Quinn let us brush and feed the horses. I brushed Chief. He is so sweet and gentle. Then, after breakfast, we went to collect the eggs and got quite a few. We got in the pioneer and went to help with the cattle and the pigs. We did a lot more than that but it was definitely a highlight. Kristan helped a lot and was so sweet. When we got back we asked if we could do certain things ad she said yes. I highly recommend asking about things that you want to do and haven't done. We chose not to have lunch with them and to make our own but were invited anyway. The shrimp that she made was SO GOOD. Wow! My sister got to help hose down the horses and spray them with fly spray. I learned to rope! Bear taught me and he is such a good teacher. I can actually do it! I learned to rope on a plastic cow"s head and then we roped the goats! Awesome! We had the roast beef dinner and peach cobbler. It was nice and afterwards we played around outside with the dogs, Snow, Friendly and Saige. They are all really gentle and Friendly accompanied us on a walk even though we didn't have a leash! There was a playground, basketball hoop and tetherball set. After we had showers and such we played some board games and went to bed. The next day we drove away and sadly had to say goodbye to Hunter Cattle. :)

Long weekend visiting Helen GA

Reviewed By T2978QOjenniferl

We really liked our little cabin. We stayed in cabin #4, which is attached to the office when you first pull in the driveway. I wouldn't recommend this particular cabin for more than a couple because of size. But they have other cabins of different sizes and layouts. There is a fireplace we enjoyed and rocking chairs on closed in porch. It was clean and decorated with mountain bear theme. The kitchen is very small which you can see from air bnb site. There is no stove/ oven but there is a hot plate. There is a small fridge, coffee pot, microwave, pans, utensils, etc. You are able to prep small meals. There was a bottle of wine waiting for us with a sweet note welcoming us. It was from local winery. We would stay here again.

Great price for a great stay!

Reviewed By JennHolland

We stayed in cabin 1 for a long Valentine's Day weekend. Since they are pet friendly, we were able to bring our dogs with us at no additional charge. It was very peaceful, relaxing, and in a great location just minutes from Blue Ridge and Blairsville. We went hiking at Vogel State Park and then wine tasting at Crane Creek Winery. Pam, the owner, was really professional and nice while providing information about the cabin and suggestions on restaurants in the area. We will definitely be back in the future!

We stayed at this cabin for three long days. On arrival the cabin was hot and and so I assumed there was no AC. I later discovered an outside unit and discovered an air filter so clogged with debris that no air was moving. Later that evening as I was preparing for bed a huge spider ran out from under the pillows and across the bed. Managed to kill it but wife refused to sleep in the bed and stayed on the couch. Saw another spider running across LR floor but unable to catch. As we were getting ready for bed discovered water pressure in bathroom very low and drain also very slow in bathroom lavatory. The next day went to grill steaks on outdoor grill. Grill very caked with grease and no grill brush to clean. Scraped it with spatula after lighting fire. Tried to roll grill after fire was lit and wheel fell off almost dumping burning charcoal on wood deck. Unable to prep part of dinner no cooking knives. Next day went ok, convinced wife to sleep in bed with me only to have her awakened by beetle falling on her face from ceiling. We packed our stuff and cleared out. This cabin is cluttered, dark, dingy, and dirty. There were multiple spider webs, trash under the bed, a general need for a thorough cleaning and extermination. We paid 245 per night for this. At this rate one would think they could supply something better than Walmart store brand coffee. We were happy to leave.

It was like owning a farm

Reviewed By bizarro

There are only three log cabins for this property, all modern and attractive, and since this is on fifty acres which back up to the National Forest, it felt like we owned the whole farm! Quiet, peaceful, a chance to reconnect with family in these busy times. Close to town; easy to find. Good value. "Off-season" means it is really private and peaceful.
