Le Tse-Fung restaurant transports you to the other side of the world: Traditional Chinese and Asian cuisine, crispy duck, dim sum... Red velvet, black lacquer and silk decor take you at once to a Shanghai palace in the 30's. Under delicately wrought lante

Are there any truly great Chinese reataurants in the world? I doubt it and I have tried a few that claim that title. The Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong, Ken Lo in London. The Michelin starred Tse Fung at the Residence Hotel and Spa in Geneva doesn't even come close. In many ways it is the world's most expensive chinese take away.I know that Chinese food doesn't have the freshness of flavour of Thai or Lao food but seriously folks it can have more than one dimension. Spicy or bland. We began with a champagne cocktail with a strawberry infused hibiscus flower floating like an alien inside. Why not chuck a gummy bear in a glass of champagne for a similar effect. To be frank the Bloody Mary was quite good. The amuse bouche was a 2cm steamed dim sum with three grains of caviar that was as bland and tasteless as a piece of blutac. My wife had the langoustine with black bean and garlic sauces and these were good. I had the chicken and celery dim sum which was CHF 20/$20/£20 for four, yes four, 3cm dim sum that tasted of nothing unless you dipped them in the sweet sauce. Then they tasted of sweet sauce. The celery was stronger in the Bloody Mary.It didn't get much better after that. I had the garlic prawns which were golf ball sized breaded prawns with no sauce and little flavour except deep fried garlic. My wife had the crispy noodles with seafood which was theatrically stirred together so that the crispy noodles quickly became limp ones. The taste was sub takeaway chow mein. The sichuan aubergine was good or at least a bit different.Apert from the aperitif we had a glass of rose each and my wife had a cognac to finish. So nothing crazy on the alcohol front and the bill was £130 per person which is ridiculous given the hugely indifferent food. The emperor has no clothes and reminding people that this is the only one star Chinese restaurant in Switzerland doesn't make it any better.Dear MarkLanigan,First of all, La Réserve Geneva Hotel and the Tsé Fung team would like to apologize for not being able to bring you complete satisfaction. We deeply regret that you were disappointed during your last visit. You have taken the time to share your impressions of your dinner so that Le Tsé Fung can improve. Also, we thank you for that.Indeed, the factors of variation of the taste sensibility depend on each one. But know that this is not the perception or emotion that our Chef Franck Xu wants to share with our guests. Be sure that we take your remarks into account and remain at your disposal to discuss. We look forward to welcoming you back to you and to introducing you to the Tsé fung experience as it should be.Best regards,Kader Bendjeddah

I have frequented different iterations of this restaurant over the years, This new iteration does not deserve to last.I found the seating extremely uncomfortable and more fast food like.I went with the menu which seemed attractive and reasonably prices. The spring rolls were just about and the main course was beef something or other. Well I could count the pieces of beef that were on the plate on one hand. The rice portion was barely a fist full. A desert was included but not the tea which was extra. All in all a extremely bad experience and it cost me 17 Euros which is extremely expensive for what I got.I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody and would give it a miss.
