Find out what Mediterranean restaurants to try in Nijmegen. At over 2000 years old, Nijmegen has had a pretty full life. Its transition from Roman military camp to modern municipality has not been without growing pains, but today Nijmegen is thriving, largely because of its lively student population and its status as a hub for political activism. Try to visit during the internationally popular Nijmeegse Vierdaagse four-day walking festival and the epic Zomerfeesten summer party. They happen at the same time, because why not?

We enjoy a tasty glass of wine, but also serve other beverages! And what are drinks delicious foods? We serve Italian style appetizers/ small dishes that are perfect for sharing.
Dined here this evening ... friendly ambience on the street and inside. Nice selection of wines and tasty bites. Clearly a wine bar patronized by locals and what better compliment can an owner receive. We enjoyed a nice Spanish Tempranillo along with a tasty charcuterie board and bruschetta. Terrific place ...wish it was closer home.

Hi, yes, me again. During that January visit to Nijmegen (see my review for de Bok), I also visited Romagna. Still a nice cosy Italian restaurant with some authentic recipes. The 'new' owner (who has been there 14 years....) is a true Italian with heart and passion for his business. Worth a visit.

Original and pure dishes and the relaxed atmosphere have made Eetlokaal Koks (Eetlokaal is Dutch for dining room) an established name in Nijmegen over the last twenty years of our existence. In the lively Bottendaal area, walking distance from Central sta
I tried this restaurant whilst staying overnight in a local hotel - it was cold and I couldn't be bothered to walk into the central area of the town. It's a lovely, cosy place, and the welcome is warm. The menu offers fairly standard fare - various meat, fish, salad options, etc, but on my experience this evening the cooking is of a good quality. I particularly enjoyed a main course of catfish (which replaced the menu of cod, which wasn't available) and the chips were fabulous! The prices are very reasonable - around £25.00 for a two course meal with two glasses of wine.I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in the area.

Honesty bides me to say that I usually don't have very high expectations from local restaurants - either the food is not inspiring or the service is lacking, causing the whole dining experience to be a bit lopsided. Fortunately, the experience at De Sjalot could not have been better. The service was excellent - even though our server had only been employed for a few days, her knowledge of the dishes and the cuisine was exceptional, her smile dazzling and her overall demeanor friendly, kind and inviting. The Moroccan-inspired food was superb - each dish, including the complimentary amuse, was beautifully prepared and plated with care and eye for detail. We ate more than we should have, stayed longer than planned and enjoyed every minute of it! You know that a dish is good when, weeks later, you can still picture it in your head and remember exactly how it looked, smelled and tasted. The quality of the ingredients, carefully and locally sourced (the chef has her own vegetable garden), and the love and care that goes into the preparation and plating of these dishes is fantastic and, in my experience, hard to find. Highly recommended.

What a lovely surprise this restaurant. I was taking a business relation to diner and I wanted something not too formal and good food. Italian food is something everybody likes. I had the Lunette al tartufo e parmigiano as a starter, oh it was good. Being in the mushroom business I know a bit about dishes with mushrooms... That's why I had the Filetto di manzo al marsala con funghi trifolati, pancetta calabra e indivia belga caramellata as a main course. The meat was prepared just as I asked (medium-rare) and some mushrooms were used that are not too common (shimeji). The service was done by a Dutch lady, speaking Italian as well. I think she may be the wife of the Italian chef/owner of the restaurant. She had a great style, not formal, yet at the same time recognizing it was a business diner. We had a great evening. Will come back!

This restaurant not only looks beautiful, they do everything right. The food, the drinks, the staff, the design and the prices. Our group of 60 was not a challenge. At least, that was what it looked like from the customer perspective. I'm sure it must have been a huge team effort to make it look like that.Thank you, we had a great dinner.

This great place is run with charm and dedication by Dimitry and his sister Maria. Although many costumers rushed in this weekend (the weekend of the Nijmegen 4 days marches), they served delicious pasta dishes with Italian charm and great red wines. Highly recommended!
