Arrieved with no pre booking (in mid October) to this charming pension, where our host ( who's name I have sadly forgotten) was extremely welcoming and accommodating. We initially asked prices for one nights stay with no evening meal and then proceeded to price check other pentions around the area. We found hanakirens price to be the fairest (cheapest) of them all and opted to stay two nights. We decided to go self catering and were allowed to bring in our own supplies of food and more importantly, wine into the lounge. This suited us because of dietary needs and budget. However there are no cooking facilities to use because, like most pensions, evening meal and breakfast are provided for extra cost. There are two private onsens and even a massage chair to help recover from a days hiking around some spectacular lakes and mountains. It's the little touches that make this place special, a well thought out family home who's host is genuine, friendly and generous. Highly recommend to families and couples. Would recommend having your own transport to see maximum amount of national park.

I really enjoyed stays this small comfortable hotel, with nice wine, pizza, pasta etc., it exceed my expectation. If you will have a chance to go Takatue Ski area, you should try there.

Family-operated pension welcomed us warmly. Their son is an Italian chef. You reserve the bath times you want. Hot-rock bed for detox, Dead Sea Salt bath, Hinoki bath or Jaccuzzi bubble bath. Separate room for storing skis. Dinner was delicious, plentiful and inspired. Extremely quiet area just north of Inawashiro Lake. We requested beds but Japanese style rooms available. English OK.

The two owners of this property were delightful. They treated us like family members, cooked delicious food for us and generally made the experience very special. We are travelling in Japan for seven weeks and staying in a variety of three, four and five star ryokans, hotels and guest houses. Staying at More no Gorilla has been one of the best experiences mainly because of the owners. The room with twin beds was small but comfortable, there was lovely music playing in the background, the food was delicious and it was good value.

I read the reviews for this small local inn in the resort town of Inawashiro and was inthralled by the wonderful comments written about the inn’s manager Mr. Abe that I felt compelled to check it out. I admit that the super low prices of his room made me wonder about the quality of the rooms and service. I will say that in my entire life, I never experienced the level of customer care and service that I have enjoyed at this hotel. Mr. Abe cares about his customers and this is obvious. I arrived early and he allowed me to check in 4 hours early without additional charge. He asked me questions about my food preferences for dinner and breakfast and I was amazed that he created a specific menu for my personal taste without any surcharges. This hotel is a hidden gem and honestly I cannot think of any better service that I have ever experienced in my life. As a world traveller with dining experience at the world’s most luxurious hotels I am qualified to say that this hotel is amazing. It is not a Michelin 3 stars, it is not a 5 star luxury hotel but it is a super cheap inn that pays attention to each and every customer. Are you looking for a bit of Irish sprit in a night pub? Then come here! Amazing alcohol and food awaits you! 5 stars

This is a small town hotel with a very nice feel. Having stayed there in the winter, when the ground was covered with 2 feet of snow, it was fantastic. It is very near the train station. There is not much in the town, apart from a few shops, but the railway is so near that exploring other areas of the valley and surroundings is very easy. We found the samurai castle at Aizuwakamatsu really good. The railway also links to the main Shinkansen train route so is easy to get to and from at Koriyama and there are regular trains all day. English is not spoken much, the food is real Japanese and the rooms are mostly traditional. They do have western rooms, but I would go for the traditional ones where you sleep on the floor with quilts from the cupboards. The rooms are quite large. Out kids loved the whole experience. The Onsens – (large hot baths) are also good and can be taken at any time, either in public or private. The hotel was a bit cold in the corridors, but it was deep mid winter and the heating inside the rooms was fine. Much better than the tourist trap hotels that we saw around in the larger towns and good value for money. A real taste of Japan

The hotel is located in front of Inawashiro Ski area. It is convenient to come from Tokyo with Shinkansen train and Ban’etsusaisen. It is 10 min taxi ride or free bus from Inawashiro train station. Hotel was reasonably priced - we paid 15000 yen for full board and ski lift per person per night. The facility is a bit old but still good in function. Receptionists were very friendly.
