My husband and I ate here on tow consecutive nights during a cruise of Friesland. We ate lunch at a couple of other restaurants in town, but felt this was the most creative, interesting food available in Workum. The view of the sluice implied in the name is a bit of a stretch, but it does have very nice outdoor seating with a good view of one of the lift bridges at the west end of town. Family style sides were served with tasty main courses. The wait staff were accomodating and spoke enough English to help us through the menu.

We have been in The Netherlands for nearly a year and travelled all over and this restaurant has been one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The proprietor was so knowledgeable and friendly and his wife is a truly wonderful chef. The food was so delicious we would highly recommend a visit. The restaurant has a lovely outlook and ambience too. We will definitely return.

We had lunch here when we came of the ferry from Terschelling. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a good atmosphere. Nice laid back music, friendly staff and many teas. We had a starter platter to share and the soup of the day. All very tasty and fresh. The coffee afterwards was als very good.Highly recommended for lunch in Harlingen.

My date took me out to this ‘upper class’ restaurant. We sat out in the conservatory, which looks absolutely gorgeous. Very modern and sleek.The restaurant offers good service and high quality food. The dishes are real eye-catchers: every course looked beautiful. The only thing was: I didn’t enjoy the food so much. I felt like they were trying too hard. Putting so many flavours into such a tiny dish (I mean seriously, it was just one or two bites in a dish) is just too much!There was hardly any balance between the foods and flavours and I felt that they let these beautiful products go to waste by adding so much stuff. Personally I just like a good plate of real food. Nothing too fancy, just good flavours and enough food on my plate. So this restaurant and it’s eye-catching dishes are just not my cup of tea. But if you’re really into kickshaw and you have plenty of cash (it’s an expensive restaurant - fortunately my date was really nice ;)), this could be the place for you.

We hebben hier gegeten met vrienden. Zoals ook de vorige keer was het weer bijzonder goed. Voorgerecht mosterdsoep was prima van smaak en heet van temperatuur. Hoofdgerecht smaakvol en goed klaar gemaakt.Blijft dus een aanrader. Ben echter wel benieuwd wanneer de kaart gaan vernieuwen. We hebben er nu een paar keer gegeten en de keuzes zijn op.

Popped into this highly recommended fish snack bar / shack for a tasty lunch on a sunny weekend afternoon. Great service. Dine in, out or takeaway. Absolutely delicious freshly prepared fish (3 kinds) for two (princely sum of 13 eu´s!!! great value) enjoyed overlooking the working harbour and boatyards in Makkum. If it´s a simply and freshly prepared fish you´re after...look no further!

Nice and seafaring atmosphere, waiters very kind and open. We had two beers, a schnitzel (with mushrooms), fried prawns and fried potatoes, two small salads as included side dish. All was good. We paid 47.95 euros and we found the price worth the dinner. We loved the atmosphere!
