Friday Harbor Hotels | Places to Stay in Friday Harbor

August 5, 2022 Roseanne Arnett

Sleepy and secluded Friday Harbor is a tiny town with big personality and rich history. Small enough to walk from one end to the other, the coastal fishing village is dotted with picturesque turn of the century wood frame houses, historic storefronts, Coast Salish native carvings and not a stoplight in sight. Stroll through the Historic District, visit informative museums, explore the Port of Friday Harbor waterfront park and see the local populations of orcas and whales from the shore.

Dingy & Outdated, Needs Updating

Reviewed By B7668RBdeborahs

Great location & nice setting off the the main street In Friday Harbor, the rooms are large & have a nice seating area. But this hotel needs updating & cleaning. I don't think I'd call it "dirty" but shabby & sad come to mind. The bed was horrible, the covers were dismal & the pillows lumpy & old. Plumbing works but took 20 minutes to fill the tub 1/2 way. White towels were grey & dingy needed to be replaced. Hallways are depressing, long windy & confusing. I would not recommend this place, book elsewhere.

Nice visit

Reviewed By allycatt30

We enjoyed our week long visit. We thought the rooms were clean and comfortable. An added bonus was the coffee, microwave and small fridge we didn’t realize we would have. It’s a good location, close to town. We also had good wifi and had no trouble connecting to the internet. There was also a large television in the room, on the wall. The only one negative was the shower curtain. It had the smell of something that sits in the washer too long. We would definitely stay again.

The Orca Inn

Spend a night...Not a fortune! It's really simple: Smaller Rooms = Smaller Rates. At The Orca Inn, we are proud to offer the smallest rooms in the state of Washington! Which means we have the lowest hotel room rates on San Juan Island. (Of course, for just a few dollars more, we have larger King and Double Queen rooms). With the money you save, you can spend more on amazing whale watching tours, incredible kayak trips, and other island adventures that you will remember for a lifetime. As Mr. Carson once said, "The business of life is the acquisition of memories." And at the Orca Inn, business is good!

Decent for price, but watch out for being double-charged

Reviewed By 618tiannaa

I paid for the room online, then when I went to check-in, she asked for my credit card. As she was typing in the numbers, it occurred to me to ask if she was about to charge my card for the room, and she said yes. I had to explain that I had already paid for it, and she said the system didn’t show her that. After doing something on the computer for a few minutes, she finally said everything was fine and gave us our room key without charging my card. The room was small and very clean. The water heater only allows for one shower every 25 minutes, so we had to stagger our showers. The bed was rather saggy, so it could use being flipped or replaced. I’d recommend this economical stay, although make sure you don’t get double-charged!

AVOID THIS HOMELESS SHELTER AT ALL COSTS

Reviewed By Ashleywest90

This is the dirtiest hostel I’ve ever been to. We refused to take off our shoes unless we were in bed and even then, we slept fully clothed because we were so uncomfortable. We have stayed at hostels across the country and the world and this was by far the lowest of the low. The hostel also doubles as a homeless shelter! So there are homeless men hanging around inside and out all day long hoping for a room. The air smells like urine and body odor. The bathrooms were filthy with feces and urine. Most didnt even have toilet paper until today. The long term “residents” leave their toiletries in the bathroom and it’s just honestly disgusting. The fridge was FULL of fruit flies and other bugs. The homeless have their feet up on all the furniture. I wish I could leave zero stars.

A wonderful find

My wife and I recently spent 4 nights at the Friday Harbor Grand B&B. The room was spacious and comfortable, the gourmet breakfasts were a delight. The owner, Farhad had his own chickens so the egg dishes were always fresh. He even had his own berry garden for making the preserves served at breakfast. Each evening he entertained guests by playing classical piano music on his concert grand and serving a selection of wine. The location was very convenient and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the company. Highly recommended.

Loved it and hope to return

Reviewed By annelT4285XX

I stayed here 3 nights and was able to bookend a separate expedition. I liked that it was outside of Friday Harbor and borrowed a guest bike to go to town. The room was nicely furbished and perfectly clean. My room had a view of the alpaca pasture. I loved that it had a country feel, yet the water is just a short ride away. The breakfasts exceeded my expectations and met my hopes :). I love brunch and breakfast food. The first day I had a pastry with an egg baked in as well as fresh fruit and a fresh green salad. My last day included this delicious waffle with a hint of orange, freshly whipped cream, coconut and almonds with thick (I mean meaty) bacon. I meant to take a picture but I was so drawn in by the food I forgot. The proprietors are really friendly and helpful. They are organized and run things efficiently. I think that is critical, which is why I mention that first before I say how nice and personable they are. They love the island and its community. They made me, a solo traveler, feel welcome and at home. For those considering a stay here without a car, it is doable. I didn’t want to rent a car when I only needed it briefly. I rented a moped from Susie’s Mopeds (really fun) one day and I used taxis two other times. I recommend this place highly and hope to return here. I loved San Juan Island in general and there are things I’d still like to see next time. I really loved the Trumpeter Inn.

We were in town for a wedding and the whole stay at this hotel was very good. The check in process and stay was very well handled considering COVID. Room was not fancy but certainly adequate and clean. Beds were comfortable, the service though "remote" was good. We asked for some extra towels and coffee supplies which were delivered quickly and "contactless". My granddaughter locked us out of one of our three rooms and they were right there to let us in. The pool and spa were very nice and my granddaughters loved them. Great location for easy walking to everything in town. Loved the locally produced soaps and shampoos. Would definitely stay here again without any second thoughts.

A must do on a bucket list to San Juan Islands

The historic resort is spectacular. Fine dining restaurants, pubs, coffee shops. Beautiful gardens, very impressive marina. I would have rated the experiance 5 except we wanted a one-bedroom condo and was assigned #119. The condo was clean and up to date except for the kitchen which has 20 years old countertops and appliances. Some of the outlets did not work as well, the fireplace was none functional, It appears that a lot of the properties are owned individually and managed by the resort, Suggest you call and make sure you get an updated unit.

One night stay

Completely over priced. The owner says COVID has not allowed “hot breakfast “ but she doesn’t even try. Granola bars, coffee, and cold hard boiled eggs are fine just adjust your price for it. An idea would be to make individual breakfast for guests, packaged for the specific person, then the price might be okay.
