La Ferte Bernard is a fairly nice town with a quaint town square area. Just off of the town square is The Hotel Du Stade. We stayed here for one night taking advantage of the Half-Board offer for two. 95 Euros includes a room, dinner and breakfast for two people. The hotel itself is kind of run-down and definitely needs updating. The room was on the smaller side and even though it was clean, it also needed some refreshing. The staff were very friendIy, trying to speak English when I was struggling to speak French. I think most of the clientele at this hotel are workers who have travelled from elsewhere. The dining room is fairly large, like it could accommodate a large party or wedding reception. Both dinner and breakfast were served here and there were only a couple of other people also having dinner. There was a refrigerated buffet cart that contained cold side dishes such as pasta salads and potatoes, and you were able to help yourself to as much as you wanted. The choices for the hot portion of the dinner were either steak or omelet. My wife thought the omelet was pretty good. My steak however was still raw. They also served dessert. We had creme brûlée and a passion fruit dish. Both were ok. Breakfast was simple; just coffee, yogurt, baguette, croissant and juice. The Hotel Du Stade is an ok place to stay. If you don't mind staying in a hotel that badly needs an update, it is a fairly inexpensive dinner and place to spend the night.

In my book, hotels are for sleeping and restaurants are for eating, never confuse the two. Except for the Hotel Kyriad Ferte Bernard. Where you can eat fab food in a light airy setting, and enjoy being looked after by the super staff. You can easily forget you are on a business trip and relax. Yay!

After having driven around LFB for a while looking for somewhere simple but respectable to eat (without success), we decided to go into LFB and try Le Dauphin. We thought it might be a bit pretentious so were a bit apprehensive. How wrong we were. Very helpful and attentive but not invasive service and absolutely incredible food - it made the evening. We were warmly greeted and helpfully presented with menus in English. The food was stunning, tasteful, faultless and amazingly good - I went for the â¬50 set menu (5 courses) and my wife, selected A La Carte dishes. We'll be back as someone once said...

This is one of those chef's that LOVES what he does: you can see it and taste it in every detail. Open fire cooking, fresh produce braised, boiled or steamed to perfection and stunning, mouth-watering presentation every time. With a warm, friendly team dedicated to making you feel at home, this cosy little bistro for gastronomes really suits its name. I've been with family, friends, on business and as a couple - and it's always come up trumps. Ideal for any occasion.

Miserable, unwelcoming patron and wife producing an expensive pretentious menu. My skate was undercooked. I returned it - no apology, no offer of replacement and no reduction on the bill. As for the room - cramped and so basic that it made IKEA flatpack look like Louis XIV. The decor, carpeting etc was third rate; colours like livid orange so in your face that it resembled cheap pre-school playgroup rooms. Hotel is situated on busy junction used by heavy trucks avoiding "payage" - so it's OK if you don't mind not being able to open a window or having your breakfast in a room within 4 metres of an articulated lorry.
