This was recommended to us by French friends with a holiday home nearby - they were right! Owned and run by a charming young couple, husband in the kitchen, wife runs the front of house. We ate here on a Friday evening and the following Wednesday and they were full on both occasions, it's not hard to see why. Amuse bouche and 3 courses for 25 euros, how do they do it? But it's not all about the cost, the food was delicious, well presented, the service was efficient but very friendly, the wife of the owning couple chatted to each of the guests at the end of the meal and the chef came out from the kitchen to do the same. I am sure we will be coming back to Gien again and when we do, this will be our first port of call! Many thanks! By the way, we have it on good authority that the rum baba is to die for, it wasn't on the menu when we visited, but if it is, go for it!

This hotel is a foodie's ideal stopover. So good, in fact, that we booked a stay for our return trip a week later.

This newly starred restaurant provides a tasting experience, not vulgar food. The chef incredibly mixes unexpected savors into a delicious dish. Egg/snails/Reblochon cheese or red mullet fish+pineapple may sound awfull or even disgusting. Just taste and you'll give this address to your very best friends. The cheese offer will surprise and delight even the best connoisseur.A ne pas manquer. Et vaut le détour. Que vous soyez à Gien, dans le Loiret ou à 150 kms, cette table vaut le trajet. Les prix y sont extrêmement raisonnables.

We were nearly put off but some of the previous reviews but thankfully not. We were a party of eight and had a lovely dinner. All of us enjoyed it, the food was very good and service excellent. The bill was slightly more than 2 of the other restaurants we visited but I would still recommend it.

Arrival is down a long tree-lined driveway through lawn and gardens to a well-maintained small chateau and creates a sense of relaxed elegance. Probably a popular wedding venue. After obligatory photos we were welcomed by typically well groomed staff members. We were in Briare near the end of a canal boat journey down the Canal du Lateral de Loire and had booked at this restaurant on the recommendation (and booked on the 'phone as we waited) of a helpful staff member at the office de tourisme at Belleville-sur-Loire. When we arrived there was no reservation (later I concluded that we must have been booked for another night) but "no probleme" as they readied a table. The hotel/restaurant appeared nearly empty and the waiter explained that their normal menu was not possible (groan) but the chef would make us a 5 course degustation for E45 - YES THANKS.Sensing a good meal in the offing, I selected a 1er cru Monrachet and a Ch Pez Bordeaux for only E110 the pair! Very pleased as both were excellent. The meal was a triumphal procession of visual and palate-pleasing delights that rated well among many Michelin-starred places we have eaten. Congratulations to the chef and staff for creating such a success from what could have been a misadventure. Magnifique and thanks. Oh, and all up the bill for 2 came to only A$315 - a bargain; Oz restaurants take note!

We chose this place because of the interesting menu du jour displayed outside the restaurant. It was expensive for a lunch (25 euros for main course and dessert) but we are prepared to pay for good food. Sadly we think that it was overpriced for what we had. The slow cooked lamb and fillets of fish were well cooked but the accompaniment of a very small portion of little pieces of sauted vegetables, including scorched onions, showed no skill and there was barely any sauce on either dish. The dessert of peaches poached in red wine was lovely, and the ice creams served with fresh fruit were very refreshing on a very hot summer day. The chef was really welcoming and spoke english but was on his own and had to cook and serve the food. The total was 57 euros which included a bottle of mineral water. Probably 18 -20 euros would have been a fairer price for this two course meal.

One can walk anywhere in Briare in minutes. Head over the little bridge and there is Le Petit Saint with the Blue canopy. If you are fortunate enough to have an outside table ( ask your hotelier to make reservations) you can slow way down and watch the bridge for movement and the water water for wakes. Food is delicious, delivered with hustle from the kitchen it is hot and demanding attention. Your host checks to see if everything is satisfactory and then bids you adieu so you may dine at your leisure.
