We went on Bastille Day, and after watching the town band leading a procession of US WW2 Military vehicles around the main streets, and visiting a Brocante "antiques" market we decide to eat! The restaurants adjacent the sea which feature higher up the rankings than this featured considerably higher up the price scale too and were equally adjacent to a number of 75-registered Parisian cars! This restaurant down opposite the racecourse advertises itself as a Pizzeria, but this title does not do it justice. It is very obviously a friendly family-run business and we were offered a seat inside or in the garden outside (which we chose). My wife had an enormous Tuna salad, and I had a very filling seafood tagliatelli, both followed by a naughty home-made Tiramisu, all washed down by a 10.50⬠bottle of very pleasant Loire wine. The waitresses were very attentive, and we shall return with our young grandchildren to sit outside where they can drop crumbs to their hearts' content!

Arrived in Coutances and found this restaurant shortly after parking near the tourist office. Very clean, modern, busy restaurant. Extensive lunch menu. Waitress was very friendly as well as extremely busy. We both chose chicken dishes and food was extremely tasty. â¬40 for 2 main courses, 2 deserts, water and coffee. Highly recommended.

This restaurant advertises itself as a pizzeria but also does well-chosen, good-value French-style meals. Its greatest attraction is its charming rear courtyard garden where you can eat surrounded by flowers, which are the owner's passion - but there is a surprising amount of room indoors as well, small though the place looks. No parking immediately outside, but a little way uphill is a service road where you could leave the car. We had a delightful meal in the garden on a summer evening (nothing grand, just nicely done) and found the waitress very welcoming - she also wanted to practise her English! As it is next door to a creperie, which we didn't visit, Le Fournil probably has to make a special effort to offer its customers something attractive and good-value, and I think it succeeds.

If like we were you are staying at the ibis budget and wondering if this place is OK then I can assure you it is. We just wanted to be able to walk somewhere and eat and have a bottle of wine it provided a good meal good service and even a surprisingly nice atmosphere. Clean, tasty pizzas reasonably priced. If your not bothered about views then save your self a drive and get fed and watered here.
