The owner was a very interesting man who spoke very little English but given my limited French speaking abilities I was able to have a delightful conversation with him. He was one of the first people I was able to practice speaking with and all while making an incredible pizza. At least for my mom and I it was incredible. Being from the United States everything tasted better.

Just outside of "old town" is the Ridstorante La Pignata...about a 5 7 minute walk from the city center. This is the most authentic Italian restaurant in the area...a great staff, very friendly and warm. We didn't have a reservation but arrived right around opening time (1900 hours) and the owner seated us without hesitation. My wife and I each had a glass of Prosecco and for our first course we shared a pizza Margherita...neither one of us could have eaten the entire pizza...it was too large. But it was delicious. The dough was perfect and the amount of cheese was spot on. We shared our second course, the Gamberoni with pasta. It too was very good...the tastes were authentic Italian. Lastly we shared three scoops of gelato and we had an espresso. The place was packed with mostly residents of Colmar...so you know it's good. The owner and the wait staff were very outgoing and friendly. We highly recommend La Pignata should you wish an Italian meal while visiting Colmar in the Alsace region of France. Great spot!
