ate here a number of times, and always found the claufouti the best around. Good service and a final liquer offer is always a surpize.

Four of us dined at Domaine de Brandois. The 'Good':- What a wonderful setting, a fine old chateau in really picturesque parkland surroundings. The food was of a high quality with some really interesting and tasty dishes. The 'Not-so-good:- Considering that this is a high quality restaurant (with prices to match) the service was average. For the main course three of us ordered the pigeon and one ordered lamb - what came was three lamb and one pigeon! Having considered the time taken to prepare the meals we made the, perhaps, strange decision not to send them back and instead accepted the mistake. It was then we realised that there was no cutlery on the table and so we had another short wait for the waitress to reappear so that we could ask for some knives and forks before being able to eat our meals! A minor complaint perhaps but this level of restaurant should demand the best service. Back to the 'Good': both the lamb and pigeon dishes were excellent. So, mixed feelings - if they can get the service right this will be a first class restaurant!

We tried this restaurant on friends' recommendation and were certainly not disappointed. The space is simple, elegant but small so reservations are recommended. A couple of menus are available, one with two (32 euros) another with three courses (37 euros) and there are daily recommendations from the chef. For entrees, we began with smoked trout tartar and a white bean soup with sautéed snails--both excellent. My husband tried the chef's recommended roasted octopus (unusual and tasty) and I had the supreme of chicken with mushroom polenta (fantastic). Our desserts were light and fresh--a vacherin with mango and meringue and a plate of assorted sorbets with a financier. Nice Muscadet by the glass and attentive service added to the pleasure. W loved it! Parking nearby makes a visit easy, and the adjacent ancient church with beautifully preserved fragments of Gothic sculpture is worth a look as well.
