Prior to this restaurant being taken over it was a âlast resortâ place. If all other options in Cormatin were closed, weâd go there. Generally unfriendly and very average food. As it had recently been taken over by a new management we visited it again this week. What a transformation! Welcoming and friendly, the waitresses insisted on speaking English despite me continuing to speak french. The menu is extensive with french and international items plus pizza and pasta dishes. There really is something for pretty much everyone. If you want âarty, poshâ food go somewhere else. If you want good food, well cooked, presented nicely and reasonably priced this restaurant is probably the one for you. We will definitely go back, regularly.

Not only are the pizzas here the best in southern Burgundy, but also the daily specials are to die for (as are the desserts)! The charming owner, Claire, creates inventive flavour combinations that you won't find anywhere else, all homemade and locally sourced when possible (except for the pizzas, which are made from real pizza flour imported from Italy along with some of the key pizza toppings...)I NEVER tire of coming here and if it weren't for the damage to my waistline, I would probably eat here several times a week. Especially since the prices are so reasonable and the welcome so warm. The drive from Cluny to Salornay on the D980 takes about 10 minutes and is gorgeous, and the fresh hot food awaiting you here makes it absolutely worth while. It's only an 8-minute drive from the castle in Cormatin too. Reservations in the evening, especially on the weekend, are highly recommended because the place is very popular (and rightly so!) with the locals.

My wife and I recently had lunch at LaCalabrese in Cluny. It is very convenient to the abbey and a great place for a mid-day meal. We both ordered pizza and, had we known in advance, we probably would have ordered one and shared it rather than having ordered the two that we did. They were large and reasonably priced. The manager indicated that all of the ingredients for the pizzas were imported from Italy. They certainly tasted authentic. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch for anyone heading to the abbey in Cluny.
