They are young, they both cook and they both serve, and they know what they are doing.Very limited menu, all fresh, local and bio.Very tasty, they use very fine and sometimes original combinatiions of spices.Limited but sufficient wine list. Wine comes from a wine cellar is is thus at the right temperatur. They are talented, work hard and deserve the success they have.

Auberge De La Place

Cazals is a lovely village (700 years old?) which, if it was in England's Cotswolds, would be swamped by summer visitors with their cameras. But, although there are some similarities between Cazals and Cotswold villages - the honey-coloured stone of the buildings, for example - this village is not as 'precious' about itself as some of those picture-book villages in more densely-populated England. Nor, importantly, is it as expensive to eat out, here. The Auberge de la Place has a dining room (empty when we were there) and a simple outside eating area (became very busy from about 20.00 onwards), across the road from the front door of the restaurant. The friendly, welcoming staff (mostly family?) get used to carrying trays to the tables in la Place. We were there in 2017 when the set menu (entrée, plat, Rocamadour goat cheese and dessert was 25 euros). In 2019, it still is 25 euros and it remains excellent value for money. It is a no-frills meal, but, one which is copious and honest. The starter of raviole with a sauce of ceps was lovely. So was the faux filet with goat cheese sauce and the grilled lamb with garlic. Each dish came with delicious home-made frites that were hard to resist, despite doctor's orders. No other vegetables, but, that did not matter. A delicious strawberry bavarois and a choux bun with cream and chocolate sauce rounded the meal off. The half-litre carafe of very drinkable wine at 6 euros was enjoyable too.On a warm July evening, it was a pleasure to eat at the Auberge de la Place.

Had a lovely lovely lunch with a friend here. The food was great especially considering the price, only €17 for a 5 course lunch. The only criticism I have is the waitress, who was extremely unfriendly and verging on the aggressive. We ignored her attitude and by the time we arrived on the cheese course she was more friendly. Shame, as apart from that I cannot fault this restaurant

Aux Airs de Fanny

This little local restaurant has proved to be a boon in a rural area where there are but a few eating places. It's run by Stephanie and Pierrot with occasional extra help in the summer. The restaurant was established with the help of the Commune of Marminiac in an old building in the centre of the village. Indoors has a smart contemporary look and there is a large sun-shaded terrace in front. Since it opened a couple of years ago, we have had dinner here several times on our own or with friends or family. It has become very popular with locals [French and ex-pats] and with summer visitors. It's a good idea to book given they do only 25 covers. The set lunch menu is a bargain and there is a special traditional local dish on Saturday lunchtimes, advertised in advance. The evening menu has a number of choices based mainly around local produce and typical dishes. There is a good short wine list, mostly Cahors and Bergerac. Check for opening times.

We had two special occasion meals, lunch and dinner, here during June. Both meals were superb, one a special order for a big birthday, was beautifully prepared and presented and the take away leftovers enabled us to relive the occasion next day. Perfectly cooked garlicky lamb leg was our special, but really no need to stray from the menu. This is friendly without being familiar, professional service by two young folks who know their food and booze. Thankfully free of froths and foams, it is an escape from the ubiquitous duck - much as we love it, it is possible to start quacking round here. They have sufficient savvy to serve heat friendly dishes such as gravlax, avocado and confit lemon which gets away from cassoulet in 40c temps; at the same time, it can be chilly even in summer, so try a lamb burger. Classic French village location, multi-national customers.Just lovely. All power to their elbow.

At most cafes in France we visit we are more than welcome with our dog. However I always accept the "no dogs" rule inside any eating establishment and would never enter with our dog without asking permission. I have found when we sit outside in colder weather some cafe owners tell us to come inside. So imagine my surprise in Verteilliac on visiting this establishment when we SAT OUTSIDE and planned to ask for a cup of coffee. We were told abruptly NO DOGS.....and yes I ironically did not see the mulitude of "no dogs" signs that littered the establishment......clearly the owner has a problem and is "sign obsessed". If your a dog owner STAY WELL CLEAR :)

If you don’t like duck this is not the place for you. However if you do like duck and want a great meal for a good price then this Ferme Auberge is the place. Tucked away in the tiny hamlet of La Serpt this family run Auberge uses all its own home grown ingredients. There are a number of menus from 15€ to 32€ but the most popular is the 22€. This menu will give you the house aperitif, red wine, the signature garlic soup (which I adore) followed by a choice of 5 starters then the mains, cheese, dessert and coffee. As I said you do need to like duck, the mains are really duck confit or duck breast served with an enormous plate of sauté garlic potatoes. The service is good and they are very friendly. In the evening weather permitting you dine under the trees in the garden but they do have an indoor area as well. It is always necessary to book here normally about three days in advance. There are two reasons for this, firstly it gets booked up and they only ever do about 30 covers. It also has rather erratic opening times although normally available most days during July and August. Overall just a lovely French country eating experience.

We passed this hotel restaurant on the way from the airport and stopped for a beer in the evening sunshine and vowed to return soon to eat there. The following Monday,we planned to have lunch on our way to Gascony. The menu was reasonably priced and offered a good choice. The food was well cooked and presented and served efficiently by La Patronne ( De Baas!) who recommended we try the Cornish Sole (Megrim) - a delicious, firm white meat, not unlike Dover Sole. The steak Pave was cooked rare to perfection but required serious mastication. We were happy with our lunch and the cleanliness of the toilets/public areas ( often a let-down in France). We will be back!

Five courses preceded by the "magic potion" and succeeded by coffee and digestives. Wonderful wild boar pate and a really hearty soup. Oh, and the venison was also delicious. Wonderful place to eat. And all for €25 per head, We will definately visit again if we are in that part of France. However I beleive that it is only open for food on Saturday and Sunday
