This restaurant is a little old fashioned and can be quiet at times but this is more than made up for by the owner who also serves the customers. The food is based on local cuisine and I have always found it to be tasty, we'll presented, ample and hot. During the summer we have been to a couple of evenings where there was a choice of just two dishes ( one evening was modules frites and the other a barbecue) and on both occasions the seating was on three long tables with everyone sitting next to each other, a great way to meet new people. We have occasionally turned up without a reservation and have always been accommodated with a smile.

This was the second time I'd eaten here. On both occasions, the welcome was far from warm. First time, we were three who were ignored for five minutes before being seated, despite there being few diners and then we waited too long for menus, water, bread. The a la carte main was acceptable. Second time, sixteen places reserved, again a long wait before we were invited to sit. For ease of service, we went for the menu du jour, but there was a general reluctance by the owner to cater for dietary requirements, even vegetarian. Starter [chevre/miel with a lettuce leaf or two ] was OK. The main, stuffed vegetables, smelled misleadingly delicious - it was bland, to say the least, and the allegedly meat stuffing wasn't a threat to the local animal life. Mediocre, to say the least. Desserts were fine. I should mention that the vegetarian main was enjoyed. House wine dearer than usual in this area, and coffee more than twice the price, if taken at table instead of in the bar. This is NOT Paris!! All sixteen were British, always on the lookout for nice restaurants to take our visitors; we won't be recommending this one, which is a pity, because it has been tastefully refurbished. I can't imagine that the locals are impressed by the fact that the parking places out front are now full of tables, chairs and planters, leaving the church and dress shop to provide off street parking. Oh, and we were apparently too noisy - sixteen people talking usually means a buzz, but not here. Typical of the chilly reception. The waiter was shouted at in our presence. He earned the two points for service, otherwise there would have been none. He at least was friendly and helpful, so we ensured that he was duly rewarded, not the owner. We won't be having our monthly lunch here again.

We were in Treignac on a Sunday night and couldn't find anyplace open to eat dinner! We drove to Hotel du Lac and asked if they knew where we could eat that night. They were very helpful and called Auberge des bruyeres, who told us to drive over. When we arrived the chef/owner turned the lights on for us and proceeded to bustle about bringing us wine and delicious coq au vin for dinner. It was one of the most memorable experiences of our entire trip to France! How exited we were to find this cozy, French country restaurant to eat a romantic dinner in!

A superb Sunday lunch here was characterised by an imaginative menu, faultless cooking, attentive (but not over-intrusive) service, and an all-round friendly professionalism. I cannot think of a single thing that was wrong with our meal - or the ambience that surrounded its enjoyment. The excellent wine list was a crowning glory.During the week, a 15 Euro lunch menu is excellent value for four courses. The previous negative comments here (from people who appear to think that British expectations are the norm all over the world) do not reflect my experience of this outstanding Auberge in a delightful village tucked away in the depths of Correze. One word of advice for our friends from the English Home Counties: the internet is a predominantly English language phenomenon. In France, life goes on perfectly well for many people without it. Try coming out of the cyber bubble for a while, use the telephone to speak to the hotel, engage directly with the people who work hard to make you welcome in their country, understand their cultural distinctiveness, and even try to learn some of the language. You may find that you are taken a little more seriously.Otherwise, I cannot recommend this establishment more highly.

Family kitchen with a local French taste to welcome you during your holidays in Correze. We provide all the services you may need during your stay and will be happy to guide you on what to do in our region after your meal with us!
With the wonderful Hotel de France just across the road, and the genial Cabane De Pierron (for drinks) just a step beyond it, I am staggered that anyone would come here to eat - or drink. The 'take it or leave it' attitude would be alright if they offered a consistently excellent experience. They do not. I have had a good pizza here. I have also had one that is completely inedible. The 'Frites Maison' which they advertise outside on an A-frame as being available at all times, are nothing of the sort. What puts me off most is the large number of loud Brits who take over the bar from around 11am on a Sunday, especially in summer. This is not what most of us come to France for. There are much better options in Chamberet.Hi Simon,We are sorry that your experience at Le Chambertois did not meet your expectations. We would be very happy to welcome you again to try to make you change your mind with a plate of our home-made fried potatoes (we changed them and these are not "frites" anymore and are totally home-made). We cannot be always perfect but we really try to make our clients' experience as good as possible and as often as possible. Really much looking forward to seeing you for you next holidays in Chamberet.

What a relief! Chamberet now has somewhere as an alternative to the very dependable and formal Hotel de France. If you want a good-value and filling lunch, this is the place to come to. The young couple who run the Cafe des Sports deserve support. A firendly welcome, inventive food, and a good atmosphere. The fact that so many local workers come here for lunch tells you everything you need to know. Our 13 Euro five-course lunch (which included coffee and wine) consisted of mushroom soup, a goats' cheese salad, hake in a provencal sauce, cheese and an apple charlotte.I will be returning again... and again.

We ate on the covered terrace beside the river, so atmospheric. Warm welcome, especially for my two-year-old grandson. The menu is varied, both savoury and sweet, though as is often the case in France, you will need to take your own lemon, if you like the traditional UK dessert; they willingly did one for me, and offered to remake it, if not right. Next time, I shall ask them to add the lemon juice at table, so that the balance is correct. I shall look on it as a service to future customers from the UK! We enjoyed a variety of dishes between us and all were good. The only likely problem is that parking nearby is limited. I shall definitely return.

We visit Cote TI Plage many times during the season (April-September). We are always warmly welcomed by Carole & Olivier who are the perfect hosts. At my birthday lunch last year, they presented me with a beautiful flowering plant! The food is excellent, from the delicious Gambas (my favourite) to succulent leg of lamb steaks, juicy faux filet steak, magret de canard with fig jus & tasty, spicy seafood dishes. Last night, 10 of us met for our 1st dinner there of the season & had a wonderful evening, in the beautiful, lakeside setting. We look forward to many more visits over the next 6 months.

Who ever comes to this beautiful and romantic village in the middle of France, which seems to be stuck in medieval time, has most definitely to come to taste these delicious sweets. An endless selection of fines cakes (4,15 ⬠p.pice) and chocolate is offered, which makes it very difficult to choose. Every bite is an explosion of taste. Go and try it!

Went for dinner here as our B&B didnât provide dinner on a Wednesday evening. Was a little apprehensive given the 3.5 TA rating but no other choices available. Upon arrival we were treated by a very pleasant young lady. We were also impressed with the modern, high quality decor and furnishings. We ordered from the al a carte menu. The choice was excellent and the price very reasonable. Our meal was very, very good an the service was efficient and friendly. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting the area.
