It was a quiet Tuesday night in the off-season, and our party of six arrived without a reservation. There were two occupied tables in the large, well-lit dining room, where we received a friendly welcome from Madame. While we browsed the carte we were served wee walnut bread buns, which were delicious. Most of us had the â¬31 three-course meal, though a couple had just the two-course â¬27 version. After we had ordered, we were brought an amuse-bouche of a sort of pumpkin soup, which even those (me) who are not mad on pumpkins (nor indeed soups) found very tasty. It was a good meal, good service though the room was on the bright side.

Spent the last two weeks in France cruising a canal and touring Champagne. This was the best place I ate the entire time. Great food, great service, wonderful presentation, good wine and desserts. The aroma coming from this place first caught our attention. It's a small cozy cellar right off the canal. We tried to get in first on a Saturday night, but the place was packed. We made reservations for later in the week and arranged our trip back thru the canals to be sure we could eat here. Was as good as we had hoped.

For the second time we were there and found the same hospitality, friendliness, but most important quality and quantity of the food. We felt very spoiled and had a delicious experience. Quality wines for moderate prices. A flood of small surprises, amuse-gueuls and entremets made us almost dizzy. Only critic: we could not change the desert for the cheese board, next time we'll try again!

Having just arrived in Alsace, dining at La Haut was my very first experience of Alsatian hospitality and provided a warm welcome. The drive up was very pleasant and I was intrigued by the idea that we would be eating at the top of a peak! The restaurant itself is set in a beautiful old chateau but with a modern but homely interior and a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The sight from our table was spectacular, with a view across Saverne and beyond. To start I was recommended to try Flammekueche, a typical Alsace dish not dissimilar to a very thin pizza but covered with creme fraiche, onions and lardons. Very light and tasty it was a perfect starter and a delicious introduction to Alsatian food. For my main dish I tried the special as recommended by our host the Black Angus steak and it proved to be a great choice. Cooked to perfection and accompanied very simply by a small salad, it was among the best steaks I've had and I would have eaten the whole thing, but the cut was very generous in size! The staff at La Haut were very welcoming and friendly and I must admit to being relieved when one of the young waiters was keen to speak in English so that he could practice his language skills!Overall, a very good welcome to Alsace and definitely recommended if you are visiting Saverne.

This lovely restaurant is located uphill in the old part of the town. Visitors eat in the vaulted cellar, but can also use an outdoor terrace. Typically Elsässer flammkuchen is paramount at the start: try it! For the mains we chose the extremes of foie gras and a vegetarian tart. Both were of impressive quality. As almost everywhere in Alsace the desserts were very delicious. Along with a bottle of wine one pays for a three course meal for two people about 100â¬. The price-quality ratio is reasonable.

This restaurant specialises in typical Alsace food, served in a hotel in the forest of the northern Vosges. We took the wild young boar, with spatzel, chips and vegetables, covered in a thick sauce, and accompanied by a red wine. The meat was extremely well cooked; thin slices that were extremely tender. The sauce was a little under seasoned, but this was soon compensated by beautifully prepared chips. The spatzel was great for mopping up the sauce. The only really disappointing aspect was the vegetables, which were bland, and slightly over cooked. For dessert we took the cheese plate and creme brulee; all good. At 17,5 euros per main dish, 11 euros for a half litre of red wine the price is about average for this type of place. Overall a very good experience, overlooking the forest.Dear Sir, Madam,Thank you for your nice comment. We hope to see you soon again. Yours sincerely Patricia

I had the chance to eat my lunch and dinner in this place during some of my often visits in Phalsbourg, and I strongly recommend it. Good french cuisine, good wines too, kind and smooth "atmosphere" make it a place to go.

This restaurant is new (at least it wasn't here a year ago) and a reservation is needed: clearly it works. It seems to be run by two people: it isn't large but still large enough to have some work cut out. The waitress is friendly and knows what she is doing. The selection of food is limited but has enough variety to serve all tastes (about 5 starters , main dishes and desserts). The quality of the used products is great, the quantities are good and although sometimes there are too many flavours on one plate the chef knows what he is doing. The atmosphere of the restaurant fits and all together it makes it a great place to go: with drinks and three courses we spend for two around â¬85 and while not cheap it was worth every euro.
