A small inn on the edge of a lake in the middle of nature. Our specialties: grills on a wood fire.
The auberge is situated in an idyllic spot on the edge of Lac Genin. The restaurant is family-run, with different generations either waiting tables or tending steaks on the open fire in the dining room. This room is rather cramped with far too many tables too close together for true comfort, but the reality is that this in no way detracts from the experience (and it certainly keeps the prices low). If you want the most efficient service, choose a table on the left side of the room. However, the view is better on the right. Peruse the menu whilst munching on olives, gherkins and crusty bread (served with cold unsalted butter) Pick the 18 euro 'menu traditionnel' and you get to choose from a range of starters (we had the raw ham, two vast sheets of the stuff, tender and flavourful and a juicy chunk of saucisse that had been marinated in wine and roasted over the fire). Follow this with either a mustard-coated côte de veau or a parsley-buttered faux filet, both of which will be cooked over glowing embers (or in the case of my veal, the flames - it was a tad charred!) The meat comes with the crunchiest of frites and a small green salad.Next the cheese board will arrive, along with a knife (and more of that bread); just slice off what you want - we chose the excellent, nutty Comté and a home made mush of wonderfully garlicky creamy stuff. Finish off the repast with a standard French bistro dessert or pay a couple of Euros extra as my husband did and have the hot creamy sweet alcohol-laden Irish coffee.Ignore the wine list and go for a carafe of very good Côtes du Rhône which will set you back about 6 euros. Make an outing of it and allow time beforehand to visit nearby 'Dinoplagne' (see the recently discovered dinosaur footprints) and stroll round the lake when you have eaten to work off the effects of all that food. On a warm day, take swimwear (but best to do your swimming before eating).

Great views on lake, excellent service, good food: the restaurant has nice views over all the Nantua lake. Service is very attent and no details are missed.I tried the "cheap" menu several nights: small apetizers, delicious starters, good plates (you have to like meat), and delicous deserts. Recommendable if you are in the area

My wife and I visited during this years French holiday. We chose conservatively and both had fish with rice and vegetables. What we ordered was nice but it was a conservative selection so the unspectacular result must not be the blame of the premises ! My tuna steak was good and well cooked. Looking at other peoples plates I immediately regretted not the dish of little fried fish that seemed to resemble whitebait (a favourite of mine). My wife had a white fish described as lemon meunière which she said was tasty. We didn't have dessert but did have probably the best cappuccinos of our holiday. They almost resembled mochas and were very much to our liking.Worth a look but do have a decent delve into the tastier elements of the menu rather than holding back like we did !

We had Sunday lunch here recently - stopping off for a break on a day-long journey. Beautiful setting that must be exceptional in summer. Big choice of dishes - traditional French with a smattering of Turkish thrown in thanks to the owner's roots. Good quality and fair prices. Friendly service. Quite a find!

We found this restaurant by chance whilst spending a few days based in the area. The location, by the lake, the service, and the food were all outstanding. Price wise it's midrange so very good value for money. We will definitely go back next time we are in the area. Very highly recommended.
