La Chaîne dâOr gets her name from the history of the 18th century, when the house was considered as a toll house. A large chain was crossing the Seine river between the rives and the island. Each boat that wanted to cross the river from La Havre to Paris
Reading the Summer Menu in the street, we decided to have a 'posh meal' on our final night at Les Andelys, and went in to book a table. The courtyard and reception area impressed us, and the booking was taken pleasantly, so we were optimistic as we arrived the following FridAy. The dining room was attractive to enter, with a view over the river, and nice big tables. Unfortunately there was a CD of light American vocal music playing constantly, and very boring, no change of style or tempo.About ten tables became occupied in the course of the (rather slow) service of our dinner. We began well, with a tasty small round fish cake, sitting in an egg cup of diluted soy sauce, which I thought was nice. My husband enjoyed the nicely cooked steak he had, and my pork chop was also carefully cooked and very tender for a pork chop. The only other course I particularly liked was the cheese, a splendid buffet, of which one could have a small selection. I agree with the comments made by another reviewer about the raspberry tartlet. It was pretty, but not nice to eat. The atmosphere was very subdued, the food expensive, and service slow. It would perhaps have been a good spot if you had some really fascinating subject on which to pontificate, but it wasn't a relaxing place to be. I do wonder if it used to be much better and is struggling with an identity that no longer has much to contribute to local cuisine. The building and position are marvellous, but the ducks on the river, and whether or not passers by had their umbrellas up, were more interesting than the food. This was a real pity, as we had begun with such high hopes.Dear GuestWe thank you for taking time giving your advice on our service which will help us to improve our standards. We regret that you considered our service as rather slow, our guests come usually to take a nice time resting in front of the Seine river and enjoying their meal. If we do rush, it spoils their evening, especially on friday night. We obvioulsy agree to adapt our tempo according to our guests expectations and you should have mentionned to us that you wanted us to serve you a little quicker.Concerning our cuisine, everything is home made and we regret that you did not enjoyed our raspberry tart, cooked under demand at the beginning of the meal and garnished with home made whipped cream and fresh raspberries from Normandy (Growed by a local farm located 8 km from Les Andelys). Nevertheless, we thank you for your comments regarding your main courses and our cheeses assortment. We understand you did not liked our music selection, which is an assortment of Jazz Crooners, most of our guests enjoy this kind of music and encourage us with this choice. Unfortunately, it is complicated to satisfy all tastes of music and styles. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you in la Chaîne d'Or for another stay in Normandy.La Chaîne d'Or

This really is a very special restaurant which belies its exterior within The Hotel de Paris. The building is a fairly imposing traditional looking 'grand maison' but the entrance is spoilt by having a rather tatty green carpet covering the elegant entrance steps. Inside is a fairly dark hallway which leads to an elegant and airy dining room where the real action is!Every thing is cooked to order. The menus, either fixed or a la carte, cover typical Normandy dishes but with some other French regional specialities. The wine list is extensive with the oldest being a 1988 Bordeaux.Orders are taken by the extremely knowledgeable wife of the chef and it quickly becomes apparent that presenting food is a passion about which they care greatly. Everything is delightfully presented and explanations are freely given if there is any uncertainty.Undoubtedly this is true gourmet eating - cooked to perfection and presented with care and consideration.Fine china, glass, and linen all complete and excellent experience.

On a Sunday in December it's not easy to find a delicious reasonably priced meal in Normandy. This bar looked busy, warm and inviting. The main problem was there was no menu du jour which was understandable on a Sunday but there were numerous boards with choices of courses . Some were pArt of a three course menu , Some not , but it was very confusing . We ended up spending 55 Euros which was as much as a first class midday meal we had eaten in narbonne earlier in the week. You need to be very canny if you want a cheap meal here. The food was good but not great. The waitress got impatient when I asked her various questions about what the course were , in.mybest French which I admit is not great , but I make an effort.she walked off but came back later. She smiled more later.was understanding the

This little bar on the square is open daily for lunch, when the food is standard cafe-type fare. However, on Fridays and Saturdays, it is also open for dinner, when the food is well above average standard. It is advisable to book, but be warned, bars in Les Andelys close early! We (a party of 5) reserved a table for 8pm and had a most enjoyable evening including two bottles of wine, aperitifs, starter, main course and puddings for a total cost of â¬157. The service was excellent and the two "plats du jour" were both delicious. I had Coquilles St Jacques in a cream sauce and the other plat was a steak. The atmosphere is that of a local bar, but the food is definitely a cut above. The toilets were spotless, but I could not connect to wifi and dogs are not welcome in the restaurant. However, the food was excellent value and I will certainly be returning.

Come and taste our traditional and regional specialties (only local products). with daily menus or at your choice, our team will always be there to welcome you and make you spend a pleasant moment.
Dined here on a recommendation and initial impressions were excellent: good wine (and sensibly priced) and a small but appetising menu. The starters were very good - a special mention of the Camembert which was lovely with apple underneath - but the mains were rather disappointing and went unfinished. Staff were perfectly pleasant and service good. Perhaps we got a bad day for the mains, but it was a little bit of a shame after the high standard of the first course!

A wonderful tea salon that has been in business three years. It is the perfect spot to stop off at on a walk up to or back down from the Château Gaillard (or both!), you canât miss it, an attractive old brick home. You enter through the lovely garden, where you can sit at a table in nice weather with great views. However, you must go upstairs to order. The upstairs is worth a look anyway as it is very tastefully decorated with high ceilings. There was a painting expo when we were there. It was too warm out to drink hot tea so we ordered one of the special ice tea infusions that day, camomile and rose. It was delicious and came in a tall glass with the rim dipped in sugar and the ice cubes had been frozen with rose petals in them. The owner is a very friendly and customer service oriented woman. Her homemade desserts are amazing. She has a daily special and we had the fig tart that day, which was just divine and nicely presented on fine decorative china.Thank you,I'm glad you appreciated! I'll traduce all my tea list in English, I promise.

Lovely Normandy restaurant, fairly close to my sisters home and about 20 minutes from Giverny. The Restaurant Gabriel looks âFrenchâ from the outside but more Scandinavian modern in the inside with one large room with 60âs wood and Formica tables. Though the room is large it is quite and somehow manages to feel intimate with 60-70s music playing softly in the background. The service was impeccable and the presentation very pleasing to the eye. They promote the products of the region through local producers so everything is fresh. We were each served a delicious cold green pea soup served in a parfait glass. I ordered one of their Menu options, they have several along with a few Ala Cart options. My starter was a shrimp cocktail, again presented beautifully and very tasty. My pork dish was divine and presented on a bed of an incredible chopped mushroom dish. My menu included the appropriate wine accompaniment, which was the only disappointment of the evening â light not full bodied. My sister ordered the filet mignon, again the presentation was lovely however she found the meat touch (she thought it fresh beef rather than aged). Her starter was an absolutely fantastic Foie gras. My brother-in-lawâs selection was the steak tartare which he said he would order again. Another lovely evening in Normandy. Price range 30E to 75E including wine.

Dinner last night with Hubby and it was amazing! We do not speak French and were very warmly greeted. We were shortly provided with a server that spoke English. The Manager attempted to greet us as well and managed a âwelcomeâ in English which was charming.Dinner was delectable! The amuse busch was carrot foam with smoked cod and was a true delight to start.Hubbyâs entree of Duck was delicious but my fish dish was the star of the evening. The sauce complimented the fish like nothing weâve ever had before! It included spinach which also an amazing accompaniment.A cheese plate and dessert finished out our fixed price menu with an added bottle of Rose wine. The decor is fun and interesting, the staff very warm and welcoming and the food extremely wonderful! I highly recommend a visit.Rhhoooo ! Thank you so much for this wonderful message. It is so kind of you to express your feeling following your visit. We need such a return, because we are still a young restaurant and we are not well known yet. So your message warm us a lot. thank you also for your evaluation and your recommandation.
