The food is simple but good. The location is nice, just in front of the castle. The problem is the service: the owner does not seem very familiar with serving. He came to get our order before giving us the menu... Anyway, if you stop to visit the very nice town of Estaing, you can very well eat there.

The set meal I had was priced at â¬26 but a supplementary dish of cheese, a half bottle of wine, an aperitif and a coffee more than doubled that. Nothing was bad and nothing lingers on the palate as having been really exceptional. The atmosphere and service were very pleasant. The restaurant is tucked away into a little back street so that there is no view and no outside dining.

This little gem on the bank of the river Lot is not to be missed. We had great local food and wine at very decent prices. The service by owner Luisa is very friendly and supportive. The setting on the bank of the gorgeous river is unique. Before or after your meal take a stroll through the amazing little old town.

Centrally located hotel. The room was nicely decorated. Great view out the rear of the hotel to medieval slat roofed houses. Lovely pool in the backyard. Quite warm with a pool cover. Meal only just okay. For a Michelin star restaurant we would have liked to have been offered the choice to upgrade our half board meal. Friendly helpful staff.

I was impressed. I was traveling with a largish group (25) and we had 2 wonderful dinners here. Unlike the other 5 hotels we stayed at, where the food and service were terrible, here the management rose to the occasion of serving a large group. The options, preparation and service were wonderful. They cared about the food and the people they served. That they did a good job for a big group is a true testament to the skill of the chef.

Went here on a Monday night when all was rather quiet. Not the normal sort of place we go. The staff are very friendly and genuine and the portions of food are good, if a bit limited on choice if you don't want pizza. I guess for the price you get what you pay for. Given the fact it's cheaper than some of the other restaurants in d'Estaing I'm sure it does a good trade, but just not our cup of tea.

The proprietor brought a chalk board out onto the front porch where were seated and leaned it against the shiny model car parked indoors, right beside our table, then explained something in a mix of English and French that included the words "salad," "vegetable cake," "fromage," and then asked us to choose one thing from the menu. We chose "truite" and expected that we'd get a sequence of courses with trout as the centerpiece. A few minutes later the waiter arrived with a large slate tray each on which were placed salad, potatoes, trout, what must have been the vegetable cake, and cheese: all the courses at once. The fish was moist and flavorful, but the potatoes though tasty seemed as if they'd been cooked hours earlier, the salad had a terrible sugary dressing, the vegetable cake was a sliver of something too tasteless to identify, and the fromage was a tiny square of bland cheese. Still, it wasn't terrible, the local wine was not bad, the staff were friendly, the other customers appeared to be relaxed vacationing French, cheerful children and an amiable dog wandered around, Estaing's Gothic bridge was in view, and the price, 33 Euros apiece, wasn't ridiculous. Probably wouldn't bother going again, but if you're passing through Estaing and find yourself hungry......well, not too bad.
