The waiters were Terrific, attentive, sweet, fast. We left the cafe across the street because they ignored us for 20 minutes! This place had super cheap specials of the day (good portions!). Veal stew was great, so was the Andouille of Troy. We came back 3 times, with friends.

We stumbled on this gem by luck. What a great meal. We started with vol au vent with quail and escargot. We expected a vol au vent with chopped quail and escargot inside. Not a bit of it, half roast quail in the vol au vent surrounded by a dozen escargot and a mushroom sauce. Exquisite and delicious. We had a steak with a foie gras sauce for main course. Again simply delicious. A really nice Sauvignon Blanc. The bistro was packed, it was Thursday night, with locals.Highly recommended

This restaurant has a wonderful medieval setting and we enjoyed being there. The service was incredibly slow though! We had a pizza and salad and neither was remarkable. The salad in particular was very disappointing. When we asked for de-ca coffee, instant arrived, so we switched to the real thing which was fine. Very friendly owner and a nice ambiance overall, despite our criticisms!

Having booked this restaurant about 3 months before our visit we were greeted by (I guess) the proprietress with some amazement. I think she found it unusual that someone would book so far in advance and was intrigued to meet us. Our arrival at the hotel coincided with a downpour so, sitting out on the front patio was not an option. We were shown inside to a table with a âReservedâ sign. We ordered a 75cl bottle of Sauv blanc which was then brought in a random open bottle of a capacity of about 50cl. It had obviously been decanted from a bulk source. A measure was poured into our glasses, which we tasted. The wine was OK, nothing special, light, certainly not complex, but definitely drinkable. This wine was the cheapest on the wine list at 21â¬, perhaps we should have aimed higher and paid another 5-10E. We were discussing between ourselves that the bottle was not big enough, and rechecking the wine list to make sure of our facts, when the proprietress noticed the problem. She then scolded the young waitress who then took the bottle away, apologising profusely, and returned with another random unlabelled decanted bottle, this time of the right size.Whilst speaking of the wine we were not offered any facility to keep the wine cold, like an ice bucket. IMHO less complex, simpler wines, in particular, need to be consumed well chilled. By the time we finished the bottle at the end of our meal it was certainly not chilled. Too late did we see that the restaurant had the means, through iced-water bags that bottles could sit in, to keep the wine chilled. We should have been offered one when the wine arrived I feel.Having ordered from the reasonable choices on the menu our starters soon arrived. My partner had the cured salmon roulade with a good colourful and reasonably-proportioned salad. This was enjoyed to the full but we both though the amount of salmon was a bit miserly.I enjoyed a generous and excellent pork terrine which was served with a colourful dressed side salad. A new experience for me was the inclusion of several small red berry-like ingredients about the size of small cherries. These were soft and juicy and quite sharp on the tongue. I think they were cocktail onions that had been soaked in red wine vinegar. Whatever they were they were delicious providing, along with the cornichon, a perfect foil to the firm and meaty terrine. I think the terrine was served a bit too cold, a little warmth would have allowed the flavours to fully develop before being eaten.A word or two about the bread. Now France is renowned for its artisan breads, with crisp and substantial crusts, with an elastic consistency to the aeriated dough underneath. Flavours which flood the mouth, that satisfy and delight. The offering here had none of these qualities. The mains arrived within a reasonable time allowing us to people-watch and have a good drink of the wine. We took the opportunity of asking if the proprietress could order a taxi to return us to our hotel: which was a good 30 minutesâ walk away. With the earlier rain (which had stopped by then) we didnât want to risk getting caught-out in any returning rain-storm.My partner and I both had chosen Steak au Poivre with chips which arrived on good hot plates, accompanied by half a cooked tomato dressed with Herbs de Provence. The presentation would be described as ârusticâ, it certainly wasnât nouveau. The rump steak was however beautifully cooked and the epitome of âmediumâ cooked steak. The texture was wonderfully tender and the flavour was very full, every mouthful was a delight. There was no part of the steak that remained on our plates at the end: so, it had been trimmed well. The quality of the steak was obviously of the highest grade providing the perfect eating experience. The chips were homemade, Iâm sure, and they were just-crisp with a soft fluffy centre, and again hot. The poivre sauce with whole peppercorns was light and complimented the steak very well. Apart from the tomato which was sweet and herby there were no vegetables, I suppose it was what it said on the tin â steak and chips. The proprietress approached us whilst we were eating our mains to explain that three taxi companies had been contacted to see if they could provide us with transport back to our hotel; none could. Not to worry though as a kitchen commis was willing to take us on his way home. That was great news!We decided we would have a desert which arrived within a few minutes. My partner enjoyed a homemade Crème Brûlée which was pleasant but cold: which, I suppose, is one of the two ways to serve it. We are used to it being warmed. The caramelised sugar top was crisp and the crème was very smooth and delicate.I chose from the ice-cream/sorbet selection. I would have ordered a boule of peach and a boule of raspberry (which would have both been sorbets) but there was no raspberry. So, I had to settle for chocolate chip with my peach sorbet. This was no real hardship and, in fact, it was good fare of great quality and great flavours.Coffee was good too.A very enjoyable and reasonably priced meal. A few things which I would try to address if I were running this restaurant but the âbones were goodâ including most of the service.

Luckily this restaurant was open, one of the only ones open that time of year, and it was an excellent find. It is a quiet modern looking spot, the food was tasty and inexpensive, staff were friendly and attentive and it is definitely to be recommended. Although there was a large function happening, we were not kept waiting for our food, nor were we rushed through it.

We ordered salads and a main course. The salad was very large. It could have been a complete meal. Our main course was a casserole of scalloped potatoes with ham. It was very hot and delicious. We could not finish all of it. Sadly there was no room for dessert.Yes, I definitely would recommend this restaurant.

A nice restaurant which takes care of its customers. Straight away we were given some nibbles with our aperitif and overall the service was very good. The pizza were not the best I have ever had but were good all the same, the deserts were nice and the house rose was very palatable. Good value for money and overall the restaurant left a good impression especially with the friendly and efficient service.

Ate here with a group while on a tour of the Loire Valley and we had a surprisingly delicious multi-course meal. Everything was really delicious and beautifully presented. I still remember the great fish entree, the basil citrus green apple sorbet palette cleanser between courses, and the amazing dessert. The restaurant had a nice relaxed country atmosphere, but high end well prepared food. Definitely recommended if you're in Chateaudun.

What a find in Chateaudun! A relatively small restaurant, full the evening that I dined there (having fortunately reserved a table). Fixed price menu for 26 euros is amazingly complete and definitely excellent value. Fresh ingredients, a little bit of adventure in each dish (4 courses). I felt that the young wait staff was a little ill at ease at first, but this seemed to settle down. Good wine recommendation, and reasonably priced by the glass.
