We had a lovely Sunday lunch this week which despite the poor weather was a real treat. We have eaten here many times before and while being very good has not always scored top marks across the Board however this time the meal was spot on! I won't describe each course but suffice to say they were without fault. The best meal we have had in this area for a long time, please keep it going!

Evening meal for 4. Book in advance as lots of people were turned away (especially on a weekend). Apéritifs were accompanied by a savoury pastry, nice touch and tasted good. Water and bread was refreshed without asking, thanks to very attentive staff. Vegetarian dish was lovely (enough to satisfy a fussy mother in law); 2 different duck dishes well cooked and well presented. I had the fish of the day that was delicious and came with potatoes and a tasty little portion of rice. Good salads dressed the plates and not that it matters to some but presentation on the plate has improved and did add that je ne sais quoi to onlookers. The café gourmand was great and we shared one between two. Chocolate dessert was quite dense according to the mother in law, tiramisu was lovely. Thanks for a lovely meal and attentive service. Dogs are welcome and always well received.

Another wonderful lunch at a reasonable price. Just a standard plat de jour, but great, duck to start, beef bourguignon, then a delightful lemon dessert. suberbly presented and served? Great service, nice house red wine. A second visit for us but we will return.

We stumbled across this restaurant whilst having an evening stroll around Aubeterre, and we weren't disappointed. The staff all spoke English as well as French and were very attentive. We had a very relaxing evening, good food, great wine and perfect evening weather. We sat outside and watched people strolling around in the evening sun. Every course was perfect and I would have chosen anything off the menu. This is how eating out should be done, a big thanks to all the staff and an evening to remember

French traditional food, local producteur Work Whith us, the carte change every Time, Whith the season OF food.
As a group of 6 adults and 7 children we all enjoyed really pizzas in an informal dining area, on a Wednesday evening, in a very old opened-sided hall with gas heaters as needed. The pizzas were on average around â¬10 each and â¬6 for a litre carafe of the house rose was a very good value. Can highly recommend.

We popped in here for a bite whilst shopping in Chalais which was near where we stayed. I can recommend the omelettes - they were very tasty. Pleasant service too. Gets very busy Monday mornings when the weekly market is on.thank you for your remark see you again

This is where the french working man goes for great food & great value! Open every weekday for lunch, which consists of soup (in winter), an excellent buffet of starters including seafood, a choice of plat de jour, cheese, dessert, coffee & wine all for â¬12.50. We have eaten here regularly for 7 years now & never had a poor meal! Francois is a great chef with a magical way with meat.

Loved this place, you get what you're given - all good and only â¬18 pp. Beers - not included in prix fixe, water ,bread, soup, delicious couscous, veal and vegetable, salad, incredible cheeseboard, puddings - good service, booking essential. We walked 3km each way to get here, which was definitely a good idea! Oh yes and loads of red wine included too!

The best fish and chips Iâve had in years, and I donât just mean in France, excellent home made batter on fresh fish with home made chips, if Iâm being really picky I would like mushy peas too, but thatâs really pushing it for s/w France. Friendly efficient service and a welcoming atmosphere. Iâll be back for sure!!

Saw this special event and thought it would be a good intro to this restaurant which we haven't visited before. There are tables outside for warmer times. Inside it's very well presented. Warm welcome and shown to our table. After a while the room was full, a mixture of French and English guests. Good atmosphere. Typical choice of sandwiches, pastries, scones and teas (as well as coffee and hot chocolate). All was delicious, difficult to choose but possibly the beef and the salmon sandwiches were our favourites. The pastries were of course fantastic and the scones with jam or lemon curd and cream were wonderful. We had a little complication with a tea order but sorted, eventually, with a smile and apologies. Apart from this the service was very good. I know it can't be compared with an a la carte lunch or dinner but if this was anything to go by then I am sure either would be a great experience. Certainly on the more expensive side of what we've come across in the area but I am sure it would be well worth it. We shall give it a try when we return. In fact we can't wait.
