Le Calvaire is a typical French country restaurant with the family manning all positions. The food was beautifully presented, made from fresh local ingredients and served with pride. We enjoyed sharing the restaurant with one other party: about two dozen local residents who all walked home after a boisterous and convivial evening. Our waitress encouraged our granddaughters to try out their French and helped them choose dishes they would like.

Tradition and style are the hallmarks both of the hotel and of the restaurant. For years, I had not had my French high-school staple of "fromage blanc" served with cream and sugar or herbs. Not surprisingly, I found it here and enjoyed it thoroughly. All of the dishes I tasted were hearty, delicious and ideally suited to the country setting.

My friends took me here for their special dinner on Christmas day, Eight amazing courses for 45 euros, but their usual menu is half that. I never even knew I could enjoy oysters until I had their oysters cooked in a leek sauce. This has to be one of the best meals I have ever had in France and I have been coming here for 43 years,

This small country restaurant came highly recommended by our gite owner and previous guests and we weren't disappointed. We visited for a set lunch (remarkable value) and an evening meal (superb). The English speaking staff are clever and helpful to describe and explain dishes, particularly the excellent range of local cheeses offered between courses. They were careful to accommodate my dietary needs with lovely alternatives (not omissions!). If you are anywhere near the area this is NOT to be missed!!

Been in their for a few times for beer.coffee. Decided to go for lunch. Service is always good here, always get a smile. Had our best meal here off the hols, spent a lot more on food in other establishment however food here was better and a lot cheaper. Could not fault, will be back.

Had their set lunch following a visit to the castle. At â¬14.50 each this was really good value for a pleasant starter, a choice of two tasty main courses and a delightful chocolate cake pudding whilst watching the world go by in this delightful medieval town.

Today we went to Bourbon, what a delightful town!We had lunch at Restaurant Les Bourbons. It is by the Mairie and tourist information place. The set menu of 13.90⬠was very good. I had the best tomato and goats cheese quiche as a starter. Then the steak which was excellent, and the creme caramel was lovely, then coffee. I will go back. It was lovely sitting in the square or we could have eaten inside where lots of locals were having lunch.

We ate here whilst staying in the hotel. Food and service were both excellent. The â¬28 menu offers a good range of dishes and the cooking is excellent. Salad of smoked duck breast and hot peaches was delicious as was the entrecôte with bleu d'Auvergne sauce. The cheese board is also excellent. Wine list has a good range of very reasonably priced wines. This is restaurant worth revisiting if in the area.
