The atmosphere is magical and the Typical food is truly tasty and well presented. You can choose between many recipes of the region.I ate here a few times during business travel and I really enjoyed the restaurant, that is the reason why I finally decided to book also a room here!

Fabulous salads, and a good menu at good prices when compared to other local restaurants. Good service and a nice place to chill out and watch the world go by!

La Taverne Vauban offers specialties of 'Le Nord' at very acceptable prices; no main dish is priced over 20 euro. The plates are nicely filled and there is no risk that you will leave this place feeling hungry! Products are fresh, the plates are simple and uncomplicated. What you see is what you get: a decent meal at a good price. Service is friendly and smooth. The terrace of the restaurant is a plus: it looks out over the water of the town-moat. All in all: a very nice address when in need of a good stop and meal in Bergues.

Very good 20 euro menu - started with the buffet, excellent selection of salads, prawns, terrine, rillettes etc., all very fresh. Skipped the dish of the day in favour of mushroom ravioli - generous portion, good mushroom sauce, dressed salad. Raspberry & cream shortcake topped it off. Good hot coffee, light & pleasant ambience, warm welcome. Found the comfy little banquette with view of town ideal for one! Just a nice place with very good food. Big car park at rear.

We had an excellent Cappuccino in the covered street terrace overlooking the square and town hall. One of the best I have had in France and not expensive too.Typical Northern France atmosphere of normal people passing the day with a short coffee/drinks break late afternoon. Perfect.

We are enchanted we selected the Aubette based on TripAdvisor's reviews. A very short walk from the Beffroi, the Aubette is located in a public park itself a zen delight well worth a walk before or after lunch. We had great pleasure lunching outside quietly surrounded by towering trees, wide expanses of grass, bushes in all shades of green. A perfect spots for all ages. We ordered: - shrimp croquettes: 3 croquettes, mixed salad, french fries. Most excellent. - cabillaud cooked in banana leaves with mild green curry and carrot slices. This dish comes with rice but when I said I did not need the rice the waitress offered to replace it with a ratatouille that included red peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms. This ratatouille was delicate and light, fresh tasting, really wonderful. The cabillaud was also perfectly cooked. The cook has mastered the fine, rare, art of cooking vegetables and, here, fish, at their perfect temperature so that the food is cooked but freshness and taste subtleties are retained and enhanced. A fine gustative experience, a dish that I savored slowly. The homemade mayonnaise - also so rare nowadays - was a small, but telling sign of Aubette's dedication to quality. For connoisseurs of ice cream, the Aubette is a must - the creamy, natural tasting flavors, the delicious coulis must be experienced. Our waitress was very pleasant, attentive, professional. Waiting time was perfect. For our meal: 2 main dishes, 2 ice cream deserts, 1 beer, 1 wine, i mineral water we paid 50Euros - a superb value. Highly recommended. I only regret that I did not take a picture of the dishes.

I came here on a Sunday evening for a meal. As I was on business it was a meal for 1. It is a nice place bit quirky but what matters is the food.. I know now why it is No.1 on TripAdvisor. The steak was cooked in front of me on the grill it melted in my mouth & the chips were amazing. I also had a starter & dessert both really good. Thanks for a wonderful meal.

since 1968, second generation family business. Ordered the 32/43⬠menus to taste many of their dishes. Started with sweetbreads/wild mushrooms and calves head with gribiche sauce, again, to try house specialities. The sweetbreads were cooked (not fried as eaten in the past) and served in a brown mushroom sauce, all around, a pleasant dish. The calves head was certainly an acquired taste, parts were quite fatty, other parts had some taste, but the whole thing was swimming in gribiche sauce (hard boiled egg yolk ailoli, but lacked any flavour). At least we tried it. The 2nd course of pigeon (breast meat well cooked, a bit gamey taste, but to be expected) and catch of the day, turbot, served entiere (so deal with the bones!). The fish was nicely cooked, however, served with a pepper ratatouille, which seems a bit heavy for a side dish of fish. We had the cheese course & dessert was ok. Service spotty, no introduction to dishes, just plonked down on the table. The owners shook our hands, but intro would be nice, handshake felt awkward. Ambience was poor, could be improved, it felt like a cafeteria. 80s music not appropriate for the space. The view of the river would have been nice without the sight of garbage cans and the seacan full of patio umbrellas. Free parking.
