Absolutely positive surprise, both thanks to great food and friendly service. We ended up in this restaurant totally by accident and we enjoyed it a lot. My husband and I had fricassée d'escargots (snails) for a started and it was delicious. For a main course I had fillet de bar grille and he had local specialty, chicken in creamy sauce, all was absolutely perfect. Fully recommended!

Traditional restaurant, near of the Saône, at the crossroads of Beaujolais and Dombe, the Matelote restaurant offers a wide choice of local and regional specialties. From frogs-legs to andouillette with mustard sauce to ablette (fish), come and enjoy with

This is a cheapish and cheerful restaurant. Service was friendly although a bit slow once the place filled up. English menu available. Outside street seating. Very good thin crust pizza, busy with locals on a Friday night and a very generous seafood salad. Just what you need after a long drive.

We visited by on the day Beaujolais Nouveau 2015 was declared, we had the "Menu Beaujolais " which for â¬30 was fantastic value, 3 Courses and a bootle Of Nouveau and a bottle of "Village" Nouveau. As it is based on a Chacuterie meal we had Porc Pate and Porc Feet to start with, the. A main course of three types of pork, "Lard, Sabodet and Saucisse Lyon" served in a Beaujolais sauce. Then a desert. Service was excellent despite them being close to fully booked. One suggestion call and book a table before you go. After you can buy any of the Chacuterie you have eaten in the shop.

I was part of a small group of businessmen visiting a nearby winery and we went to the Buffet for a quick lunch. The weather was good so all the diners were eating in the adjacent covered terrace. Service was fast, the menu consisted of small âchalk boardsâ although there were additional âPlat du Jourâ described by the waiter. We chose a starter, main and dessert and a bottle of white Burgundy and a local Beaujolais Cote de Brouilly. Each of the courses was good but the desserts excelled, the Mousse au Chocolat, Coupe au Citron Meringue and the Pain Perdu all were delicious. The wine was good as was the coffee to finish. The setting was typically French village café with simple tables and chairs, cutlery was much used but classic Laguiole. Being outside on the terrace, people were allowed to smoke but only a few did. The largest table was interesting as it was round but its base was the remains of a trunk that presumable had once been a plane tree. It certainly was Buffet de la Gare although I am unaware if there was still actually a station in Belleville but the first speed train to pass by just behind the building made people jump and conversation was briefly stopped. Typically French, friendly and unpretentious, quick and easy and great value for money.

We had been searching for a restaurant until after 15:00 and found nothing acceptable. We stopped at La Maison des Beaujolais to sample the wines. The were by far the best we found anywhere in Beaujolais and we bought more bottles than we had planned for that region. During the course of conversation we asked about a restaurant open at that time. Alas, none were, but she asked the chef if he could whip up something for us. He whipped up two plates of Cochonnailles that were absolutely delicious. We did our wine tasting accompanied by the special dish. Alas, it was our last day in Beaujolais and we could not return. It will certainly be our first stop the next time we visit or pass through.

The restaurant is really in Bellville-sur-Saone, approximately 50m from the train station where there is an hourly service to Lyon in the south and Macon/Dijon going north.I came across the restaurant when looking in the Michelin Guide for places to eat in Lyon. I was with a party of friends staying in Lyon for a few days. We wanted to experience a true french village restaurant and decided to lunch there on 9th September 2010. It is roughly a 30min train journey from Lyon and costs about â¬8 each way. A word of warning, should you ever use Lyon's Part-Dieu station, leave plenty of time to buy your tickets. We queued fo over 30 minutes. However, all our efforts were rewarded by the friendly welcome, service and classic reinvented cuisine accommpanied by fine local wines offered by Le Beaulolais. We went a little over the top for lunch and chose from the â¬30 menu but I'm sure the Menu de jour at â¬13 would have been excellent. If ever in the area again, we would definitely dine at Le Beajolais.

Found this gem on Trip Advisor and I can confirm just how fantastic it is. François is an amazing and versatile chef...we sat down, talked to him about what we like and donât, and he cooked us an authentic unique Beaujolais meal that Iâm still thinking about a week later (and recommending to all my friends). Give yourself time to really enjoy a few courses- appetizer, main, cheese, dessert...the food just keeps on coming. Itâs such a great price for what it is. And François is gregarious and fun, so if you want some entertainment heâs the perfect person to talk to you about France or the area.Thank you again François, we will return someday!
