Saving grace here was the enthusiastic waitress who helped us with choosing our meals and was very friendly. Food was average, huge king prawns but with little flavour and squid well cooked as mains. Reasonably priced house wine was good value. Avoid the loo!

Bon accueil, établissement propre avec une carte sympa et une cuisine ouverte ou on vois ce qui est préparé.Bonne cuisine du terroir avec de bons produits, bien préparé, nous nous sommes régalés.Service un peu long, mais il y-avait du monde et le serveur était tout seul, dans la mesure ou nous avions le temps cela n'a pas été gênant.A essayez.

Larralde was one of our favourite restaurants in the Basque Country and we have eaten there often. The food has always been excellent. However, our meal the other evening was somewhat of a disappointment. All we could think of is that the Chef has changed. The service was excellent but the presentation of the food was disappointing.The restaurant has been modernised to a high standard. It is a pity that the food quality has diminished.

Similar to other places in Ascain we could not fault the waiting staff. Helpful in explaining the dishes and local wines. Entrecôte was very nicely cooked but a tuna main was over cooked and the ratatouille was pretty tasteless. Wine great value.Cost. For two around â¬60.

Excellent cider house in Ascain. I really love the concept, you buy a platter of pintxos (Basque tapas), and then you can drink as much cider as you want (customers are called to the barrel with a cry of txotx). The whole concept is somewhat touristy perhaps, but based on local tradition, and it sure is fun!

Set amid the lovely basque countryside, this casual bistrot-restaurant offers a unique blend of inspired dishes by its creative young staff. "Deconstructed" traditional dishes, seasonal food with veritable fresh ingredients and beautiful "art de la table" blend with the colours of the lovely village of Ascain, often accompanied by live basque music performed by a charming local band. I ate breakfast, dinner and lunch in the restaurant, as I had a 3 day stay in the hotel. The main purpose of the visit was to attend a wedding and despite the large numbers (over 150) both the quality of the food and the service were excellent. I do not know the name of the dish, but the day after the wedding, lunch comprised lamb legs and ribs suspended over a charcoal fire, which were exceptionally good. Apparently, it is a Basque specialty. For dinner that day, I had large prawns cooked in a garlic dressing, with a mixed salad, all of which was prepared to a very high standard.If you read my review of the hotel, you will observe that I was not at all impressed and would not stay there again, but I would travel a considerable distance to enjoy the superb food served in their restaurant.

This is a great place to experience the Basque French rural area -- this is truly a local place supported by locals and not at all a tourist stop. The food is limited but is fresh and delicious. The place is clean and the service great.

This is simply a fantastic place. We went twice whilst on holiday and both times the welcome, service and food were exceptional. The staff are wonderful and the food fabulous. Highly recommended.

We stopped in Hondarribia for the morning and decided to hop across to Hendaye on the navette. The beach was beautiful but very loud with a kids camp thing going on, so we headed back to the marina and this creperie. Great choice of galettes and crepes, or formules with other options if you don't want a crepe. Wider choice of soft drinks than in Spain and a great Kir Breton (or Basque if you really like their acidic and rough sort of cider). Nice staff and a great experience. 76 Euros all in for 2 courses, drinks and coffee for 4 hungry people.. Merci beaucoup. PS the navette is very busy between Hendaye and Hondarribia at lunchtime. Be prepared for a wait.
