This was our third visit to this wonderful restaurant. As always the hostess Aurélie was a delight and made us feel very welcome in spite of our very limited French. All of the staff were attentive, friendly and polite and not in the least bit stuffy - and even apologised for their poor English when it should be us apologising for the lack of French speaking ability! The restaurant is stylish, modern and crisp with stunning views from the floor to ceiling windows. Now onto the main event - the food. As before we had the degustation menu, where Xavier Taffart shows just how he earned his Michelin star. It was only a couple of months since our last visit and fully expected a repeat of the previous meal, which we thoroughly enjoyed and would have happily eaten again, but no this was a brand new menu designed for us! I am not going to go through each course as this would spoil your surprise, but there were 6 courses, plus pre deserts, amuse bouche, and petit fours and at 75 euros this is an absolute bargain for the quality and variety of food provided. Each course was perfectly presented and I have run out of adjectives to describe how good the food is. I have said before that I do not understand the michelin ratings as this place deserves much more than one star. We used to travel to Christopher Coutanceau in La Rochelle - we don't anymore! If you want a fantastic meal - please don't miss L'Aquarelle.

We met two friends here for lunch (none of us having been here previously) as it was roughly half way between our two properties and had got such excellent reviews. The high ratings are entirely justified. We each had the â¬29 set menu which has limited choice but had dishes for starter and main that we were happy to choose. For starters three of us had a crevette salad (substituting for the tuna dish) which was not quite what I was expecting. There were eight decent sized crevettes served with a very tasty dressing and a small amount of leaves which was excellent. Our other starter was the lamb sweetbreads which were presented like a pate and again very much liked. For main course three of us had the bavette d'aloyou which was served with sauté potatoes, assorted individual vegetables and a delicious onion and cream sauce. My wife had the fish of the day which was hake and also served with imaginative accompaniments. The on line menu implies that there is little choice of desserts. In fact, there is a choice of 6 different offerings. Between us we had a strawberry delice, Cubana (mix of sorbets and 3 Caribbean liquors), selection of red fruit in a "soupe" with ice cream and chocolate filled filo parcels with ice cream. All were rated as excellent. Service was very relaxed and efficient and we agreed that we would revisit when next in the area. One point to note is that there is a parking area just past the entrance to the restaurant with a not very visible sign confirming that it for use by restaurant customers.

We spent two nights in the Hotel and had diner both evenings. Wonderful, warm atmosphere, very friendly service with a personal touch, delicious food. The rooms are welcoming and nicely decorated. The Hotel/ Restaurant is located in an ancient mill, but perfectly maintained. Wonderful terrace with a beautiful view. Definitively a place to visit more than once.

This is a very unusual place, located in the middle of an industrial estate and housed in what looks like an industrial unit, but what it lacks in location it more than makes up for in the quality of the food and the service. I had the 'assiette de boucher' which comprised a large entrecote and a large brochette of rump streak served with home made fries and a sauce of your choice. As the main dish was so large we didn't have room for dessert, but what we saw being served looked very tempting. Our main course cost â¬16.50 but most people seemed to be eating off the â¬14.50 three course menu, which had plenty of choice and included a starter buffet. Towards the end of the lunch period the chef (and I believe the owner) came and spoke to all the diners - a nice touch, he also served some of the late-comers. The restaurant is only open for lunch. So if you're looking for place for a romantic lunch in beautiful surrounding don't come here, but if your hungry and appreciate good food well served at very reasonable prices, La Gargote will take some beating

Our eastern trip in Charentes Maritimes was also the opportunity to celebrate my wife's mother birthday .. we did it in this nice place. We were 14 guests .. a nice choice of fresh products well prepared .. everything delivered on time (the place was crowded for eastern time but it looks like we were alone). Also the village is a small and lovely one close to the river. Recommended place!

Myself, husband and 2 adult children arrived at Thermalia on Friday evening around 8.15. We have visited there before and the the experience has been barely OK, but it is convenient to where we stay. However, I have never met with such rudeness from a service establishment! The restaurant was quite busy, however there were tables left both inside and out. I hopefully asked ( in albeit imperfect French) for a table for four and was met with nothing more than a shrug and a grunt! Somewhat stunned we waited, almost in disbelief, as the owner passed us again, we were treated to a rude NON! - no explanation, apology or acknowledgement of our greeting! We left shell shocked - but then went on to have a perfectly lovely evening at Le Riberou, where our host was attentive and amusing and the food was excellent value. Why have I wasted good money at Thermalia in the past!!!!!! Never again will I darken their door.

The Auberge du Moulin is a delightful restaurant situated alongside a small river. The young couple that run the restaurant side of the business, (hotel also on site), are friendly, attentive and highly professional. The setting and standard of the restaurant is very good, as is the service. Two different menus are offered in addition to the A La Carte menu and the food is biased towards traditional charentaise cuisine. We ate chicken liver salad as a starter, which was very tasty and not too overpowering. Our mains were entrcote, which I have to say we were slightly nervous about, given previous experiences of inedible fatty entrecots, but they were impeccable. Tender, tasty and not too much fat, probably among the best we have tasted this year. Finally, our desserts, the chef is clearly an artist, my wife ordered profiteroles, and two large profiteroles arrived, one of which was covered in warm dark chocolate, the other covered in warm white chocolate. I ordered the strawberry tiramisu, beautifully presented and equally tasteful.Well Done to all the team.Highly Recommended

Taken here during tour of this area in a party of 24. Impeccable service, the staff were formally dressed even though it was a very warm evening and they saw to our every need. The food was excellent despite it being a set meal without choice. Pleasant dinning room with outdoor eating area. Would thoroughly recommend.
