Great place to sit on a sunny afternoon, overlooking the fishing huts and small waterway. The food was excellent. Not only our main fish dishes but also the children's food (mussels) were really very good. The wine was nice too. Service could have been a touch friendlier but I guess they were very busy. I had to prove I was eating there to use the toilet!

We thought the restaurant looked like a small bistro and the menu was agreeable, oysters, moules, sandwiches, paninis etc., with a set menu with some nice items too. We sat at an outside table as the sun was nice and warm and when the owner eventually came out to take our order with a gruff "What do you want?" He spoke in English even though we were speaking French to him and have never had a problem before! We were taken aback slightly as he was very friendly with the workers who were all happily eating at another table! We asked for the menu and he immediately told is he had no oysters or mussels (even though the sign says we always have oysters and mussels and the boats that collect these dock opposite the restaurant)! After looking at the menu we decided to have a panini and a plate of frites! No Paninis - out of season!! Ok, we thought what else can we have, I chose a chicken burger with salad and frites, my husband went for the grilled ham and frites! Our carafe of wine was slammed on the table and followed by the food! The ham had hardly seen a grill, was covered in a cold pepper sauce and came with frites, jacket potatoes (not cooked properly) and salad!! My chicken burger looked better until I tried to eat it, not sure what sort of chicken was in it but not any I have tasted before! The salad on my plate was way past its sell-by date and was very brown and slimy. The frites were ok so I managed to eat those. At this point another English couple came in and sat at one of the tables at the other side of the terrace, the owner was there immediately to serve them and their beef burgers and chips looked much better than our meal had. So what did we do wrong? I haven't got a clue, we usually have good service in France but this was diabolical !!

a cut above the usual and nearby restaurants and not that much more expensive but well worth it.Good value on the 24.5 euro plat de jour with a very inventive chef and menu.Four of us had dinner without anything to fault. The gambas and ,salmon starters were superb, as was the pork cheek and fish for mains. . The chocolate and framboise deserts were pleasantly filling.Excellent service and atmosphere.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in this area. I have been eating here for over 20 years. It has developed from a âshackâ by the harbour to a âsophisticatedâ and well established restaurant. You can eat inside o on the veranda by the creek. There is ample shade outside and you can watch the fishing boats as they go out or come back ladder with mussels. It is a very pleasant location and very popular. The food is very good - it is more varied than simple sea food which sets it apart from other eateries by the port. All the food is very fresh and well presented. The service is very good - helpful and attentive. It is worth the struggle if you do not speak French. It is a little more expensive than other nearby restaurants but you get what you pay for. I recommend it without hesitation.

May look at little like a beach bar from the outside but this place has it all - authentic french cuisine, great service and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Menu predominately seafood /fish based, we were a party of six each with adventurous palettes and adored every dish put in front of us. Amazing experience and what a find! Highly recommend the beetroot & goats cheese starter and obviously, the Marennes oysters or course!

We spent two nights in the Hotel and had diner both evenings. Wonderful, warm atmosphere, very friendly service with a personal touch, delicious food. The rooms are welcoming and nicely decorated. The Hotel/ Restaurant is located in an ancient mill, but perfectly maintained. Wonderful terrace with a beautiful view. Definitively a place to visit more than once.

We dined twice in this seaview restaurant during our 5-night stay in Marennes. The décor is clean and modern and the friendly staff give good service. We started our meals with wonderful selection of oysters. On the first evening I had fish of the day which was good but I found the accompanying baby veggies rather greasy. The second evening I had the grilled giant prawns (from La Tremblade) which were flamed with brandy. The prawns were excellent but I failed to detect the brandy. The dish was accompanied by French-style risotto (a bit like Ambrosia rice pudding). Their cheeses are absolutely excellent. Good wine in carafe.

Le Champlain was an excellent choice for lunch today, Fresh ingredients, simply cooked and delicious. All deserts were homemade, we tried Tarte au Moment, lovely blackberry and red fruits with melt in the mouth pastry - wonderful. Very welcoming, lovely atmosphere, and spotlessly clean. Well worth a visit.Tank you very much for your visit and such a nice comment, it has been a pleasure to host you. Hope to welcome you again during your next trip in France. With all our dedication to your satisfaction.Very best regards.

Celebrated Papa's 70th Birthday here as a family and it was a beautiful occasion. Thoroughly 'convivial', we highly recommend this small and delightful restaurant, with its professional and discreet welcome, excellent cuisine, and quirky 'cadre'! A true fine dining experience without the usual high price tag - thank you Auberge Saint Denis for an unforgettable celebration.
