This sea view restaurant is at the end of a line of them on the beautiful front at Fouras. On the day we went it was by far the most popular, for good reason. Exceptionally pleasant and helpful staff and very good local food.. And, on a hot day, shade well managed by the staff...

Located on the seafront of the Pointe de la Fumée on the peninsula of Fouras, the restaurant L'Océan welcomes you and makes you discover its elaborate home cooking fresh and local products.
This is where we go for seafood platters. Great setting overlooking the bay towards Chatelaillon. Lots of renovations have been done - it is very well presented. The menu has changed a lot over the years - they used to have a cooked seafood platter but now all of the options come with things we donât like so we do the build your own approach.Limited free parking so get there early or youâll have to pay to park across the road

My wife and I plus friend who was staying with us came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. We booked a table for 7:30 and were given a front row seat in the conservatory section that faces Fort Boyard and the sunset. Initial impressions of service were not good. We were not asked if we wanted an aperitif, the waitress who was taking orders was very unfriendly to all and she took orders from two tables that had arrived after us. However, she was then replaced by an older waitress who was much friendlier and also efficient. We all had the 29⬠set menu. Our friend and I had the fish soup which we both thought was good. My wife had a hot goat cheese salad which turned out to be something that looked like a Welsh rarebit with some lettuce. My wife said it tasted nice. For the main course I had halibut which appeared to be two fillets from an extremely young fish which were fresh and well cooked but did not have the depth of flavour that I have experienced when eating more mature halibut. My wife and friend had cod which they both rated as very tasty. The fish dishes were accompanied by a very solid and not particularly appetising mashed potato and a cube of some sort of vegetable flan which we could not identify. Both fish dishes were served with a rich and tasty sauce. For dessert our friend and I had apple tart and apricot tart respectively which were good with plenty of fruit. My wife had a pannacotta dish which she said was very rich. Service was speedy. We placed our orders at 7:55 and had completed the meal by 9:15. Although it hadn't been a particularly hot day the conservatory got very warm and was almost overpowering when it filled up to the point where we needed to ask for windows to be opened. By 9:00 every table was full with what looked like locals rather than tourists. The restaurant specialises in fruits de mer dishes and these looked copious and were clearly popular despite the price. Overall I would say that you will get a better meal in the centre of Fouras unless you particularly want the assorted shellfish dishes which central Fouras restaurants don't appear to offer.

Good food but badly organised and slow service.Nice setting with good menu and good food.Plenty of waiters around but they are organised in such a way that each one is allocated a specific task: taking orders, writing bills, serving dessert etc.Very inefficient resulting in long waiting times!

I agree with the poster who said no wonder foreigners criticise the French welcome if this restaurant is anything to go by. The waitress was beyond rude, totally ignored our request to have certain courses at the same time. She kept insisting on asking which menu/formula we wanted despite us repeating we wanted a large carte. She did not smile once. Chips were delicious, steak was considered good, mussels were only lukewarm seemed to have been reheated and had teensy crabs still in them. Desserts were OK. Coffees were mistakenly brought to the table next to us and another equally rude waitress almost insisted they drink and pay for them even though they hadn't ordered them.

Had a pleasant enough lunch here, but nothing exceptional food-wise. Staff were friendly and attentive, although neglected to bring ordered coffee at end of meal. Toilet facilities were not great. There aren't too many options for dining on the island, so this is as good as you'll get! Also, the island is really busy and, as Bar Beau Teint is right at the main junction is the village it seems to be always VERY BUSY!
