Planned on this place for breakfast this morning (August 30, 2017) after reading reviews here. That made it easy to spot, and it was pretty much as advertised. There are numerous booths in the back, with a slightly Mexican decor, but the ten-or-so seats at the front counter are all 1940s or 1950s. Yes, I had my usual, and it was good. The guys at the counter were friendly, and the waitress was prompt. Everything was great except for one thing, but with me it's a big one: the breakfast was apparently fixed-price, so when I declined meat I was punished by having to pay for it. I didn't ask for a discount because I expected it would be automatic. That cost a "star." Otherwise, a fine place to eat.

Freshly made daily, I work next door, it's awful at 5 a.m. smelling them cooking! And can't get any til after work! Large breakfast traffic, open very early. Their "sausage roll" to die for!

This is a large coffee house where a lot of locals go. I hung out here researching a trip for hours.

See you soon!
This was a great find! What a wonderful place. Just the quiet type of relaxing evening we were look for. Highly recommend if you are traveling and looking for a good place, or if you live here - take advantage! The food was excellent. Limited selection on the wines, but the Pacific Rim, which I had never tried, was delightful! Weekends may require reservations??

Summary: Good food at decent prices at this interesting 2 building bed and breakfast located in Fort Scott, KS.
Stopped at Nate's Place for lunch on the way from Salina, KS to Branson, MO. As seen in the picture for this listing, Nate's Place is located inside a 100 year old brick home that is now part of a 2 building bed-n-breakfast complex. The landscaping and look of the exterior are pleasant. Parking is located on the backside of the building (a word of caution on the parking: some of the concrete parking blocks have small pieces of rebar sticking up, so watch your bumper) and you can enter through stairs. The sitting area has approximately 10-12 5 top tables, with possibly more tables located elsewhere in the establishment.
A waitress seated us upon arrival, took our drink orders and left my party to review the menu. A front/back breakfast/lunch menu has a variety of choices. I choose the French Dip sandwich and most of the rest of my party choose the Reuben sandwich. After our drinks were delivered and order taken, the food arrived an appropriate amount of time later. The French Dip sandwich was served full of roast beef on a fresh piece of french bread, with a small bowl of au jus available for dipping. Also included were homemade fries. The sandwich was very good, the freshness of the bread combining well with the meat/cheese. Even though it appeared small when first presented, the sandwich was very filling. Those who ate the Reuben sandwich reported that the corned beef tasted very good and the rye bread was also delicious. In addition to traditional french fried potatoes, Nate's Place offers root fries that were also considered very tasty.
Nate's Place is located in just one of the 2 buildings making up the bed-n-breakfast complex. If you have a chance, check out the bedrooms in the other building. They are a combination of tasteful furnishings with interesting themes.
In summary, Nate's Place is a great place to grab lunch, or I imagine breakfast too, in an interesting, historic setting in Fort Scott. These types of off the beat path, unique locations are always enjoyable parts of an American road trip.

Sharky's is located in a historic downtown building in Fort Scott. Interior is nicely done to give some local flavor to your visit. The menu had some many different types of foods (barbecue, mexican, american, etc) that it was difficult to choose. The fish tacos were excellent. Service was decent (not great). Don't sit in the booth by the back door - this is where employees (and customers) take their smoke breaks so the door is constantly being opened (it was very cold the night we visited) and they bring the smoke smell back in with them. Other than that, our visit was good and we will try them again.

Marsha's Deli is friendly laid back home style Sandwich. The Price is so low it makes you feel guilty ! More meat than Subway ever thought of putting on a sandwich. I ordered a small and took half home. Potato Salad has garlic in it and is YUMMY. Love this place.

Relatively new restaurant in downtown Fort Scott.
Ate there for the first time during a visit to Fort Scott Community College.
This restaurant came highly recommended to us by a friend. We were not disappointed! Great salsa and chips. We also ordered the cheese dip and it was yummy as well! My son had a special burrito and I had the two enchiladas. I posted some pictures and you can see our plates are full. We left very full and satisfied. The bus-boys took great care of us. They made sure we had plenty to drink and plenty chips.
We will be back again!

Papa Don's has been around for decades and was sold once, but the original family has it again. It is good Italian Pizza, with fresh ingredients. While other Italian dishes abound, including home-made desserts, the Pizza stands out. I had a lunch special there today--One slice of Italian Sausage Pizza (They took it out of the oven as I ordered it) and a trip to the simple, but fresh and healthy with plenty of choices, salad bar. The special, which included a large drink, cost under six dollars. There is a patio so that eating al fresco is an option in more temperate weather. Papa Don's is a real find and consistently good!

Ate at Aunt Toadie's many, many times while living in Fort Scott from 2010 to 2016. Nothing fancy but good, tasty staples for lunch or dinner. Daily specials, several pie selections, friendly staff. The building is unimpressive, the bathrooms are simply adequate, but this place is the best value in town. Always good and filling. Almost always ordered the fried okra and ranch dressing as a side.
