Our recent 7 day stay at Home2 in Highlands Ranch Colorado was fabulous, can't say enough good things about it and the price was so reasonable we were wondering it it was real......it was!

It is tricky to find a restaurant open in this lovely village out of season, so we were very pleased to find this place open on a Monday evening in early June. It is near the car park at the lower end of village, next to the stream. And we got a warm welcome too, both from the helpful owner, and the open fire! Plenty of choice on the three course menu, 20 Euros with wine and water, and all very tasty. We had a nice chat after the meal with the owner about the Spanish 'digestivos' which he was keen to explain and offer me a sample, and we left full and happy.

Family owned and operated into its third generation, they make you feel truly at home. Great quality ingredients, fantastic cooking, courteous and attentive service, a great wine selection, touching on all the major Spanish regions. Truly recommended for people who know how to appreciate the fine things in life. This is not your place to just wolf down a sandwhich after skiing. Just take it easy and enjoy great food and wine in good company, while you are treated like family (royal family).

We went to "Garmo Blanco" after Reading the recommendations and we were a bit disappointed. Risotto was not as good as we had in other restaurants on the area. Service was so quick that gave us the impression they wanted to get rid of us for a second shift and food was more expensive than other places in the valley.
Tiny quantities in the children menu.

We were looking forward to a memorable lunch with family and friends in the beautiful Pyrenean village of Sallent de Gallego. Unfortunately, we will always remember it for the very poor service.
The first thing was the lack of high chairs for the children, they didn't have any at all - although for some reason I've never understood that is quite common in Spain. Next, when a very serious looking waitress came with the menu, we were told that each of us had to stick to the full, set menu, with a fixed price, which wasn't cheap. Although since they didn't have any children's menus (again, common in Spain), the waitress did agree to let two children share one menu. The next shocker came when one of us explained he was a vegetarian and ordered the only vegetarian dish on the menu, a salad and then asked if he could have an omelette for the main course. The waitress said no, he had to stick to the menu because she was alone in the kitchen. Is it so hard to make an omelette?! I should point out that the restaurant was rather quiet at the time. On one table they were having coffee and the other must have been finishing too because they left while we were eating our starters.
When the starters came, the salads and soups were okay, served in large portions, with plenty of bread, but for that price you should expect a decent sized portion.
Our second courses weren't so good though. The meat was a little overcooked and the paella was too salty. Meanwhile the vegetarian just ate bread. As the wine was included in the set menu, and with so many children and drivers in our group, the only drinker among us asked to keep the cork so she could take the wine with her. Our unfriendly waitress flatly refused, saying something about health and safety regulations, and that no food or drink could leave the premises. We were going to ask for a doggy bag too because some of the children had left a lot of food, but on hearing that we didn't dare!
As we were eating our average desserts (except for the homemade creme caramel which was apparently quite nice) in the now almost empty restaurant, it was clear why two other nearby restaurants were fully booked when we phoned. If you haven't reserved a table in advance, don't worry, they'll always have a few empty tables in this restaurant!

The restaurant is owned and managed by a family and you realize this in every detail, from a warm welcoming to the explanation of the dishes and the visit from the cook to see how we liked the meal... I specially liked the venison stew. The prices are very reasonable including the wine ones.

If you want to eat very fat but fast and efficient, without being too much demanding on quality of service, food or simply menu, you can go there!... This restaurant seems on the other hand very popular but frankly, there are some other, less simple but far better for the same price... it can change for once but it's sad for Spanish cuisine!

Nice decoration, superb and friendly service, great food cooked with care and reasonable prices. What else do we need? It has become one of our favorite places in the Valley.

To cut to the chase, we would not return to Vidocq. Ever. Maybe if someone else were paying. Maybe.
This is a hard review to write because of "overall ratings," as there was an unevenness in our experience. So here goes: The restaurant is lovely, the service, attentive and professional. In the bouillabaisse-style soup (main course), the fish was overcooked, but the flavors were delicious. We remember it as costing close to 20 Euro. (If it were half that, actually, we would return.) Our entrecote, despite ordering it medium, returned rare. After sending it back it was still redder than medium rare. But the worst was the cut: it had not been trimmed that we could discern: fat everywhere, through and around. It was chewy and inedible.
We'd looked forward to this dinner, recommended to us by locals as the place to celebrate our twentieth wedding anniversary. Thank goodness for fine wine.

Nothing much more to say about this restaurant as it is THE best restaurant in Formigal. If you want high quality food and drink served by the friendliest team then this is for you. I would say this is "middle of the road" ie. inbetween the high end Vidocq Restaurant and the more grilled meat & chips restaurants in the village. I'm off on Saturday to Formigal and will eat here at least twice in the week.
