A Chandos Premier Hotel Location at Folkestone (Channel Tunnel) with beaches, cliffs, restaurats and many more places to visit close by.
Arrived and parked up, spent 10 min trying to find the owner for my room key in the end I phoned his mobile, sorry the bell doesn’t work was his response. A key to room 3 was handed over with a carton of longlife milk. I am a veteran so I have put my head down in some right places, but this took the biscuit. No WC, a sink that was going to fall off the wall, a bed, a bin, some shower gel, a bit of toilet paper. The sheets on the bed were discussing, the smell, I walked out. Richard phoned later and asked why l had left…never again.

Situated just off Folkestone's famous Leas Promenade, overlooking the English Channel, this traditional hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from the Leas Cliff Hall and Folkestone Town Centre and just 15 minutes from Folkestone Central train station and the Sea Front. All rooms have been decorated with modern furnishings whilst in-keeping with the hotel's traditional Victorian style and include all of the 'mod-cons' expected by today's most discerning traveller, including free WiFi, large flat screen TVs, room safes and tea and coffee making facilities. Upgraded rooms and suites add plush fabrics and premium amenities, many with full and partial sea views. The Bay Tree Bar & Grill caters to hotel guests offering modern British menus with ingredients sourced from local farms and producers where possible, all served in modern and relaxed surroundings.
The hotel is absolutely stunning both inside and out however it was majorly let down by the service and facilities. We booked to stay for 3 nights and being a platinum member of best western your entitled to free upgrade, however being the weekend of the Jubille I didn't expect we'd get this. I did however expect the staff to plan where their guests would stay, having my own experience of working in a best western myself. We stayed for 3 nights with a dog and so staff should have gone through their reservations and placed guests with longer stays in comfortable rooms. This was not the case. We got one of the smallest rooms in the hotel and having a dog (large staff) it was very cramped with all our luggage as well (wedding). I requested that we could have a larger room and said I'm not expecting an upgrade, just one that is more comfortable. The staff member confirmed that we had one of the smallest rooms in the hotel and due to them being fully booked they would be able to move us the following day and if we wanted, could upgrade us for our final night. Great! However the following day came, I rang reception and explained the situation. The lady said that we could move but it would be into the exact same size room... pointless. The day after that staff made no effort to offer us the upgrade that they promised. Staying on the topic of 'small'... the bathtub was fit for a toddler. I'm 5'6 and I couldn't lay comfortably in the bath, my partner is 6'2 so had absolutely no hope, luckily we had a shower.... which gave you whatever temperature it saw fit. The website states 24 hour room service, this is a lie. After the wedding, about midnight we asked for a drink and the gentlemen simply said no, no apology, just no. Before checking in, I rang the hotel and asked if they had a pool or gym to which they said no sorry. When I checked the website on our last night I saw that they offer a discount at the local gym... the staff clearly didn't think it was a good idea to pass this on to their guests. I asked for a drink at reception as there was a sign on the bar telling me to do so and we had our dog with us (not allowed in the restaurant). It was just a juice and water as it was the middle of the day and the lady said I don't think we can serve you at the bar. I explained I had the dog with me and was just a quick drink before we head back out. She asked her supervisor who also stated they couldn't serve me at the bar as the manager wasn't around. Then went on to say she would radio on for someone... I said not to bother and got my partner to go downstairs to the restaurant. Whatever happened to simply saying yes, we will get some one for you. The guest doesn't want to know all the aggro of getting a drink... I simply wanted some water! On check out the lady asked me how the stay was and I said we'll were pretty disappointed to be honest... she said nothing.... I then followed it up with its a lovely hotel though.... she still said nothing. Why ask how someone's stay was if you have no intention of even apologising!? I didn't expect that she would do or offer anything in return for our bad stay but an apology ... yes I think I'm entitled to that! To end on a positive... sort of... note - we requested room service for our breakfast instead of going to the restaurant which we booked in. The lady very kindly managed to sort this for us and said there may be some items unavailable due to breakfast finishing soon (it was 9.30am). Luckily they had everything expected for a full English so was greatful they could accommodate. The sausage however was not 4* standard but the rest was pretty good.

My son and me were cycling from Herne Bay to Lands End. On day 1 we did a slighly shorter leg and ended feeling that Folkestione would be a good jumping off point. This hotel is really nice. The guy on recpetion was efficient and welcoming. The room was nice and the food great.

I booked the hotel about a month ago. It was a reasonable price and specified dogs were welcome. I have travelled quite a lot around france, Belgium and uk. Pet friendly hotels are not widely available in the uk. I am used to paying ten to twenty euros or equivalent. My dog is well behaved, does not make a mess and sleeps on his own freshly laundered blanket. I was very surprised when he asked for 30 gb pounds. If you take out the price of our breakfast that fee is over half the cost of the room. It is far too much and had I known about this cost I would have gone to a different hotel. Having driven over 500miles this day it was not an option but to suck it up. He made no extra mess and certainly not 30 quids worth of mess. If you have a dog with you beware of this hidden excess cost as it makes the hotel expensive for what it is...

The hotel is great, located right on the cliffs with easy access to the beach front. Receptive staff and good outside seating area that gets the late afternoon sun for a beer. Bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and comfortable. Only issue is the parking roulette - do you get a space or not!

We stayed at the Southcliff for the first time this week. We were welcomed with open arms and made to feel right at home. Our room was spacious with a super king size bed, a lovely bathroom, with a bath, and plenty of really hot water. The tea and coffee facilities were ample and we had a flat screen TV. The room was spotless with lots of extra blankets and pillows for the bed. Our room had a bay window, overlooking the beautiful, sunny gardens of the Leas in Folkestone. We were given really useful information about the area and visited a few gorgeous places. Breakfast was another value for money experience. We were given a wide choice of continental and hot varieties. The eggs and bacon and sausages were really fresh and tasty and cooked to perfection. All the fruit juices were chilled, and fresh and we Our tea and coffee were served in pots with fresh milk. We were offered fresh tea and coffee in the foyer of the hotel, all day. The bar was open every day and evening and we had ice cold pints of beer on the wide patio overlooking the sea. All in all we had a very pleasant stay with people who took great care of us. I would recommend The Southcliff without hesitation.

Great location and everything was spotlessly clean. Great location for those wishing to visit the beach. Unfortunately I was there for work so didn't have the time. When I arrived it was to find I had been upgraded to a lovely room. That was a very nice surprise. Although the hotel is next to a busy road I wasn't disturbed by traffic noise and the bed was big and comfortable. Very relaxed atmosphere in a good way.
