The city was incorporated in 1844 and is home to Naval Air Station Whiting Field. The population was 7,045 at the 2000 census. In 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 8,044. The population estimate for 2013 was 9,323. It is the county seat of Santa Rosa County. Milton was known by various names during its development. Most notable were "Hell-Town" (muggy, inhospitable land covered with briars, mosquitoes, thorns, snakes) "Jernigan's Landing", "Scratch Ankle" (due to the briars that grew along the riverbank), "Hard Scrabble", and later Milton (possibly Homage to the Epic Poem novelist John Milton) and/or because of the local lumber mill industry or Mill Town, which was shortened to Milton.

My husband and i had breakfast here. The food was great came out quuckly even though the place was packed and there was a line waiting for tables. The menus are very creative,using license plates to house the lamenated menu. The napkins further the automotive theme, being shop towels like my husband uses in our mechanics shop.Service was friendly and checked on us often.We ate here on a Sunday morning.

Great Waffle House from the moment you walk in. Friendly and attentive staff, what travelers want when they're tired and hungry. The breakfast was cooked perfectly, served hot, and tasted good like always. If you're looking for gourmet, stay away. But for good solid food, plus great staff, try this one in Milton, Florida.

The food at Waffle House is the same everywhere and you love it or you hate it. They have tried to add a few "healthy" choices but all in all your meal is greasy but it is made they way you want it and it is made fast. Coffee is the main stay here but you can get tea. The Milton location is small..smaller then most and in desperate need of a tear down and rebuild. It is ALWAYS cold inside so take your jacket. Eat fast or your food will get cold before you can finish. The food is uneven and holds puddles of water but the staff works hard to keep it safe and dry.
