Uncle Ernie's is one of our favorite places to stay when visiting Panama City. The website was unclear on the status after the hurricane and we've found several of our favorite spots are still closed for repairs. Sadly, Uncle Ernie's is also still under reconstruction. We visited there on Feb 2nd and workers were busy working on the place. The outdoor deck area is completely gone and it looks like it had some interior damage as well but everything was blocked with safety cones and tape so we couldn't see much. While they are busy working it will be awhile before it is ready for business. I thought we got a picture of the current status but only found a couple of the harbor walk which was also heavily damaged. While the workers were pretty active I would guess it won't be open until March or later. We'll come back next year and I'm sure they will have even better outdoor views from their brand new deck area!

Went here for our final night in Panama City Beach and were expecting a great meal due to the TripAdvisor ratings⦠Hope it was just a fluke, but it was awful.... we were SO disappointed.... our waitress was very nice but we didnât see her for 15 minutes at a time⦠One hour and 40 minutes later we still had not gotten our dinner while three tables around us were turned over with desserts and all⦠Manager comped a large portion of our meal but obviously we would have rather had a wonderful meal and evening....waitress said the meal was taking a long time because one of us ordered a well done steak (?), but when it finally did come it was still pink ... my steak was not good either...Salmon was said to be very good but our appetizers were cold⦠I was embarrassed of course for recommending it (because of Trip Advisor, never having been there myself).. it was just a sad ending to a beautiful week

In the St. Andrews area, this dive had a wait list at 5p on a Friday. We asked about take away food and were told they don't always based on kitchen demand so they checked and agreed they'd let us. My son and I both got one of the blackened platters. The crab cake and shrimp were quite good. There were lots and lots of scallops and a handful of oysters (cooked). Mostly, for what we paid, there was a lot of food. Fries were ok. Hushpuppies were average.I debated on 3 vs. 4 and decided that the amount of food pushed it to a 4. Not that quantity is better than quality but I thought they did a great job with both.Parking was pretty easy even though it was crowded. If you have to wait more than an hour, not sure it's worth it. Most places wouldn't be. But if you get there at the right time or they let you take away food, then I recommend.

This place is a throwback to the 70's and hippie culture but the food is amazing. It has indoor and outdoor seating on the waterfront. I ordered the fish tacos and my son ordered the killer carnitas. You order at the window and the food is brought to your table. Fast service and super friendly staff. This is a family run establishment and they make you feel like family. we were the last table to leave before closing. I was taken in the house attached to the restaurant when I asked to use the restroom. I was in their home while they cleaned up and closed the restaurant. Hope to return someday soon.

I ordered clam strips which seemed to have more batter than normal. COle slaw was excellent and green beans were obviously canned and boring. Hubby tried Alaskan Salmon which he said was very good. However, the rice was too salty to eat but cole slaw was fine.

We had to wait awhile, but understandable considering the atmosphere of the restaurant. A wonderful outdoor restaurant that sits right on the water. Fun watching small boats cruise up to the restaurant and place their orders. I got the fried oyster basket and it was very filling! We would definitely come here again........when we're in the area! Not in the near future!

While working with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief in Panama City we have eaten at Gene's twice, so far. We will return. The raw oysters are delicious, fresh, opened at the bar in front of you. The clam chowder is equally delicious, as are the fried shrimp, oysters and grouper. This place has been in business for many years and is a delightful experience. Don't be surprised if you have to wait for a seat. It's worth the wait.

Say the reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to give it try. The smoked tuna dip was delicious! The Mahi Mahi was quite good too. The broccoli was seasoned well, and the Mac & Cheese was perfect. The staff was friendly and efficient. We even met Gary. Would go again!
