We met some relatives here for lunch All 4 of us had salads (I had the 1/2 Cranberry Black & Blue salad) and it was exceptional! Everyone raved about their food. The 1/2 salad was more than enough food -- no need to order the full.
We were very impressed and will eat here again if we are back in the area.

We recently hosted a memorial dinner at this restaurant - family style and no one went home hungry, or disappointed in the dinner. Each attendee raved about the delicious food and attentive wait staff.
Our meal included meat ravioli, pasta, meatballs, Italian sausage and all tasty. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are traveling through the Northwoods and want to stop at a supper club; you will for sure not be disappointed!
We ended the meal with a dish of spumoni, or that is a treat for all ages!

On our way home to MN and needed something to go with coffee and just happened by Chainy's. What a find. Friendliest baker, most delicious goods. Try the anise flavored Italian pound cake...Be sure and stop every time you're in the area. Wish 5 hey were closer to home.

Just happened upon this little coffee house. Was hoping they would have Chai and they did. It was one of the best I have had. Wish there was one of these near my home.

We ate dinner here on a Friday night; we skipped the all-you-can-eat fish fry, and ordered from the menu. I had the broasted pork chop which turned out to be delicious. I have had broasted chicken before, but this is the first broasted pork chop and I would highly recommend it. Others in our party had the BBQ ribs, spaghetti and meat balls, and stuffed shrimp. No one left hungry! Recommend reservations - the place was crowded, but the service was very good. Hoped to see some deer outside the window, but no luck this time.

Stopped in Barb's Cafe today for a late lunch. This is only one of 2-3 places to eat in Florence. It is a wonderful classic small town Cafe. Their menu is typical Cafe, but they do a better job than most in offering good food, with that extra touch of details and friendliness. For example, the salad was filled out with not just lettuce and dressing, but included a bevy of cut vegetables that made it much more interesting and delicious. My Club Sandwich was perfect, and my wife's cheeseburger was very good according to her. A great place to get a good meal, friendly service, and a full belly for a very fair price. Try it out, you will like it.

I stopped in here for a bloody mary, and wasn't disappointed. This is a drink that is filling enough to have for lunch (garnished with a slider, cheese curds, bacon, shrimp, etc). Friendly service, and a classic northwoods WI feel. I was here during the day, and it was definitely a family friendly establishment.

Where do you go for a Friday night fish fry with 18 family members? We were graciously accommodated on the deck for our large group! The waitress was so attentive and took our dinner order first, therefore we were able to mingle with our relatives before we placed our dinner order.
That being said it was a Friday night fish fry night and I must say it was fast service and the fish was outstanding! Not a complaint in the crowd.
Thank you for hosting our large group with out a frown on your face and making the Friday night fish fry for all the the out-of-town guests a five star meal in the Northwoods!

For the past several years Maxsell's offered the area's most picturesque setting (overlooking Fisher Lake in downtown Florence) in the finest physical setting (beautifully restored historic home) but suffered from inconsistency in both food and service. At last, thanks to new management with experience at some of west side Milwaukee's best loved restaurants (Maxie's, Story Hill BKC) it has all come together. Service and food now match the setting.
Try it out and see for yourself. My personal favorite--the grilled asparagus salad ($12 and comes with soup). I like it with crab cakes, one of their standard and excellent appetizers. My husband had the northern pike special the other week and said it was delicious and cleaned correctly (all the bones were out, no mean feat with pike). Small menu, but specials are available daily. Often including fish.
There's a large patio overlooking the lake, perfect for having wine, beer or a cocktail or, for that matter, dinner.
It is, quite simply, a relaxing restaurant with wonderful ambiance and now food that matches that ambiance.

I go here for lunch with friends. Plenty of parking; driveway entry is east of building, off U.S. 2. Entry has no steps. The Chuckwagon is popular with local folks who have cottages/homes on surrounding lakes. It serves American short-order selections; excellent sandwiches & burgers. Ample portions. This restaurant is long-established; used to be Sue's Chuckwagon. Building is a real log cabin; decor is typical outdoor, U.P. themes. There's a seating area near entrance if you need to wait for a table.
