Vilvoorde (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvɪlvoːrdə], French: Vilvorde, historically known as Filford in English) is a Belgian municipality in the Flemish province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the city of Vilvoorde proper with its two outlying quarters of Koningslo and Houtem and the small town of Peutie. The nickname for inhabitants of Vilvoorde is Pjeirrefretters (horse eaters) because horse meat (specially steak) is a beloved food in Vilvoorde.

small but cosy restaurant. The chinese lady is charming and an excellent host. The menu is very chinese. The food is certainly authentic and the cooking, although a little bit adapted to western style, is also rather authentic. Reservation is most of the time needed.

This restaurant sits on a square opposite another Chinese restaurant but, being closer to my hotel, I chose it over the other.I was welcomed by a very nice Chinese lady (the only Chinese I could see there) and offered a menu in English, which was a good start! The rest of the staff appeared to be locals, rather than family members, which is quite disconcerting, but didn't ring too many alarm bells. What did was the fact that the tables were laid with knives and forks, rather than chopsticks! I asked for chopsticks, but, eventually, had to go and find my own - the Belgians are, obviously, not prepared to try eating "ethnic"!I ordered a soup to start and was presented with both a bowl and a small tureen! The bowl, alone, would have been more than sufficient, so I sent the tureen away. The soup was OK - but need quite a bit of seasoning - fortunately both soy and chilli sauces were provided on the table. The main course followed the same pattern - a single dish being more than enough for two but, for me on my own, simply a waste of food. If you are dining as a couple, however, it will prove to be a very inexpensive evening! However, following the theme of being non-ethnic, the food was served on a normal dinner plate, rather than a bowl, and so was a challenge to eat with my lately-found chopsticks. There is an extensive drinks/wine list and the house wine, served by the glass or carafe, proved to be up to the meal, although I would have to say it did not compare that favourably with my local Chinese restaurant, let alone the quality of London's best! So, overall, if you are a couple, it will prove to be very good value, but for a solo traveller, unless you have a very large appetite, stick to a single course and you may be able to walk back to your hotel!

This restaurant was a waste of my time and money.I ordered a tomato soup. It was different from any chinese tomato soup I've tasted before in that unreognizable "things" were in there. Vegetables, noodles - I just don't know. Not too bad though.I then had a babi panggang. The pork is supposed to be grilled or roasted. Well, not here. I guess that it had been cooked, but the meat was still very leathery and lacked crispness. Awful, to say the very least. The portion was huge, maybe even sufficient for two people, but could we please have less but better food? This restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. If the other dishes are as bad as this one, I suggest closing this joint altogether.
Where to eat European food in Vilvoorde: The Best Restaurants and Bars

Asian restaurants you can find by the thousands, Chinese being the pioneers in offering the flavor of Asian cuisine going back to the golden sixties. Nowadays other Asian cultures find their ways to our lunch and dinner tables. Thai, Vietnamees, Japanese, you name it. Chinese is common, like döner or pizza. So it becomes a challenge to find a Chinese restaurant that offers that slightly different approach, that touch of an unknown Chinese province ending with -ing, flavors we never tasted before. It is a true challenge to find an escape to the commercial european flat take away we find around the corner. Well, I was told Palais Imperial was one of those, at least a special one, not a regular one. So I went for lunch, saw quite some Asian executives there, good sign but left disappointed. It is a chinese like many other, around the corner.
